J.E. Riley Special... driven by Calvin Rice. He won the Nationals in the early years like 56 or 7

  3. There's more photos of it on the NHRA Museum site Cheyenne.

I belive that is an early scotty fenn "te-440" chassis. My brother had one with a similar rollcage.

Six month bump to the top.

I'm starting a 1/25 scale Dragmaster model car & was looking for inspiration. Found this thread & figured it needed bumped back up. Lots of great, great pics here- thanks to those who've posted them!

We lost Jim last night. I can't begin to tell you the magical times I had growing up at DM in the late '60s thru the 70's....

    Bye Jim.....:(

  12. A real shame to hear of this great loss. A class act, he was one of the good guys involved in racing and will be saddly missed. Got to know him 10 years ago when I aquired a Dragmaster and he and Dode were great help with its rebuild. He once told me "Any day above ground is a good day". No better words were ever spoken.
We'll miss your stories of the good old days of racing. R.I.P. Jim.

Some how I managed to miss this one over the years. Sure was sad to hear about Jim Nelson though.

Two of our club cars (Starlite I & II) were Dragmasters. Post #52 is the Starlite I when it was brand new, not even any lettering on it.
    RIP Jim. Another legend gone

My old Dragmaster was the first dragster I ever drove, I still remember I went 130 mph at Pueblo Colorado on my first pass.
Someone had changed the rollcage on it before I got it but the guy in California that owns it today has put it back to original.

Here is a picture of my twin hoop DRAGMASTER at 2012 Bowling Green Cackle fest. This is the original HELLZAPOPPIN from Albany, NY raced by Ron Abbott who had a few DRAGMASTER chassis with that name. This is his first DRAGMASTER, was raced at the now gone DOVER Dragstrip in Wingdale, NY. Also just to mention Lebanon Valley Dragway in West Lebanon, NY, and the old Conneticut Dragway, plus a lot more in the NY, PA, NJ areas.

That's Danny Ongais pushing the digger to the finish line at Pomona I believe; back in the day when you had to cross the finish line to win, and he was broke. Butch/56sedandelivery.

I talked to the owner when I went to Dode Martin's 90th birthday party
this past July. He is from Texas and had pictures there of the work he did to it as of then. Dode is building a blown sbc for it with time correct hilborn fi. The dragster at one time had a potvin blower on it. The new motor will have a top mount 671.

    Hello,

This thread is one of the most interesting threads here on the HAMB. It needs to get back to the front page. The Dragmaster Group was one of our favorite FEDs back 57 years ago. The Dragmaster’s Jim Nelson and Dode Martin were at Lions almost every week when we were there. They were also at Riverside and Bakersfield when we were there to record some drag racing movies. Little did we know that someday they would be historic.

Dragmaster played an important part in drag racing. We were fortunate enough to see Mickey Thompson’s Dragmaster version at his shop in our neighborhood in Long Beach. They were/are classic designs even by today’s standards. There were different Chevy powered, flathead powered, Pontiac powered, front mount 671, and injected FEDs, etc.

Here is a Dragmaster compilation movie from those old dragstrip days.

    Thanks,
    Jnaki
