Kerry, I want to ask you. What route are you going with this car. I dont mean trans wise. But you going tire smoker or hook and go?

The tire smoker deal is harder to learn. I sometimes wish that I did a automatic just to get down the track . Then built a tire smoker to try to figure out. With Rusty's comment, I think that some people dont understand what I'm trying to do.

I am not trying to be just a smoke show. But do it and run a number. My small block doesnt put out enuff horse power right now to do what I want to do. Soon as I have to pedal the motor, it looses its momentum and boggs out. Things are gonna change this winter if money is right.

But with your blown/injected Hemi you could probably pull it off dirrect drive.

Even if you plan on going hook and go route. (which is the only reason you would need a reverser after your burn out)

Just forget about that and have a couple of people push you back after a burnout.

Track help is easy to find with a car like that.

Anyone that wants to know more about the tiresmoker deal. Check out this thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=372986

That smokers thread has a lot to do with me struggling with this decision. Going with the automatic pretty much means a hook and go setup. I'm not sure there's a good way to do a smokey pass while gaining traction with the automatic. Like you said, a lot of pedalling.

Going with the clutch pretty much means smoking it to get off the line and trying to maintain that fine line between bog and slip.

I don't want to be an exhibition car either. I want to set a baseline and see just how much I can improve on it. So right now I plan on using the complete automatic setup I have and that means hook and go. I don't plan on doing burnouts and I do not have a trans brake, just the pedal. I'm going with a very mild cam so even with the blower, alcohol, and injection, we'll have to see if I have the stuff to pull a direct drive. I could always launch in 2nd or even third. Just have to see what kind of stall my mystery converter has.

I've never driven a purpose built drag car so the automatic is probably a wise move from an educational standpoint and getting used to the way the car drives.

When the automatic dies or I get bored with it I can switch to a clutch setup. Even then I'm waffling between a high-low box or direct drive. More cam might be in order at that point.

I do still aspire to doing the smoker setup... someday.
