    Kerry, Looks great!

Is that an Ultrabell?? If so check it out carefully - I had SEVERAL issues with mine. I can expand if you'd like.

Dude - words escape me...............AWE-FRIGGIN'-SOME comes to mind.
You gonna drag your tail down here next weekend? I gotta place to put ya up.

  4. Automatic and weed burners? Sounds very familiar, but I couldn't afford the Hemi.
Now it's really starting to look like a serious digger.

Yeah Hemirambler, it's an ultrabell. I remember reading your trauma and even asked a few questions. Starter depth and gear position on flex plate, right? I might be consulting with you. I had to m***age the bell and plate on the left side by the starter bulge pretty seriously to get it to center in the frame right.

Sorry Ken, I'm going to be home doing some work on the digger. I intend to have the digger running for the HAMB drags so unless I blow it up I also plan on making it to the Day of the Drags. :)

The hemi wasn't the expensive part Rich, but all the extra's are kind of adding up. My dear wife was adding it all up in Quicken last night. All I can say is that old hot rod parts are a better investment than the markets.

King Ch***is was having the bars and end's machined for a Dragmaster he was building so I had him have his machinist make another set. He's on the HAMB so you could PM him for the shops info.

Breeder, this speed thing is kinda catchy. With the coupe running deep in the 12's I wanted more!

Kerry, Yes, your memory is quite good! In a nutshell - I would reccomend that you check the "bushing" for the converter - the rough drilled pilot may or may NOT be centered in the crank. For mine it was OFF .007" More than I was comfortable with for my converter. I found out too late and didn't want to pull the crank on my freshly ***embled motor so I made a TEMPORARY eccentric bushing that put the converter pilot back in the center of things. Funny how EVERY other adapter manufacturer pilots off the OD of the crank flange - just like the factory did.

Next the flex plate bolt heads hit the conveter - needing machined off.

Next the starter pocket DIAMETER was TOO SMALL - won't matter on a DENSO starter as they only pilot on a fraction of the OD, but as my ch***is was tight I ended up using a TILTON starter which has a near 360 degree pilot necessitating the proper sized hole.

Next as you remembered the gear engagement was about 1/2 what it should have been - I sent my flexplate back and they CHARGED me to put it in the right place.

The part that ticked me off the most is when I called them to let them know of these isues - they acted like I was crazy. I wasn't asking for money or anything - I was only trying to save the next guy some grief - maybe my follies will save you some grief - I hope so.

Your project is coming along great - looks killer. Before you know it you'll be smokin the hides and we'll all have a bigger smile on our faces - of course yours will be the biggest!!

No offense - but if I would have planned the spending from the beginning I may have never started - so I reccomend tossing out the Quicken.

Keep us posted - looks KILLER!!!!

I've already noticed a bit of that HemiRambler. The piece that flanges over the crank to locate the flexplate did not fit over my crank. I called them up and got a "so what" at***ude. I stuck it on my lathe and machined to fit. Heavy sigh. I wondering if I'm starting down the same path you went.

Not sure which starter I'll use. If it'll fit I might just get a stock case, high torque mopar unit.

The quicken is the dear wifes thing. She's an accountant by trade and can't help herself. I don't want to know!

Remember in one of your posts I was drooling as you were building her and dreaming of my own digger? You told me to go for it. I haven't decided if you are a good or bad influence yet but I'll let you know! ;-)

"The world's fastest Mennonite." I see a movie coming out in a couple of years. Small town Kansas boy casts his own pistons, builds own FED, sets off across the country to spread the gospel while outrunning evil forces.

The ch***is will probably cert ok. It's not going to be an exact reproduction. On the other hand there is no way I'm going to put a blower restraint on and the NHRA folks won't like that a bit.

I got the hoops today!!! but.... I'm not exactly impressed by the work. He said he had some trouble with the top hoops and he wasn't kiding. They're quite different. Two of the back hoops have an ID of 19.5 instead of the 19. The third is close to the right diameter but the radius isn't symetrical. Heavy sigh. Regardless they're way better than mine. Time to hit the shop and sort it out. :)
