Didn't you say that ray at H and L Metals was doing the hoops? How long did they take to do the bends. I have about seven bends to have him do.
    Thanks dwrfab Don Ross

Throw some kidney and helmet bars in so you can run it in other than a strictly nostalgia type situation. After you run it once you'll want to run it all the time, but NHRA and IHRA won't allow it. It won't detract from the "old" appearance by much. Maybe another bar under the engine too, they also don't like to see the oil pan below the lower frame rail. Just my 2 cents worth. I would love to have a "new" short wheelbased FED to run in the brackets. If you make more ch***is, and more currently legal, I'll get in line with money in hand. Butch/56sedandelivery.

From the time I sent him what I wanted to when I got them was around five weeks but I had told him I wasn't in a huge rush. He had another big job (Disney) that came first.

Yeah, a helmet bar and some verticals for the lower part are next but I might mount my steering box first.

When you're checkign for room - keep in mind you'll also need a tad extra for roll bar padding. Also modern helmets are generally thicker than the older ones.

Also depending on your requirements - you will likely be wearing a -15 suit - these are alot bulkier than the -5 suits - makes it more challenging getting in/out of the car - FWIW

    Is roll bar padding required?

There is a -20 suit in the cl***ifieds that is just right for my height but not my width. Heavy sigh with emphasis on heavy. Anybody out there have a fire suit and/or dragster mask they'd sell reasonably? I squeeze into 38 waist and 30 inseam but a 40 would be better.

Buy your safety equipment last. The tracks are going to look at the Mfg. date to see how old they are. Buy NEW, check the Mfg. date tag, remember you want to race another day. You are going to need the money to finish your *****in car and motor. Pat Foster told me if I started building the my AA/FD, the 10,000 5 minute job list is yet to come and it will come. Figure on twice the time and three times the money. Miracle Grow doesn't work on my Chia Pet Money Tree.

I got the steering box in place last night. I still need to drill a couple of holes for the side pillow block. Once it was in place I found getting in and out was a huge pain. Not era correct but tonight I changed it to use a circle track steering wheel quick disconnect. Much easier getting in after the wheel is pulled off. Here's my son Travis trying it on for size. I've got his seal of approval.

  16. Yes. Anything your helmut can touch while strapped in. Check the book on SFI approved stuff or just plain old padding for your application, it generally depends on the cl*** and if the tech inspector is on top of his game that day...

For safety equipment, I think the best strategy is to buy old, expired gear like belts and such to build a car. Wandering around the pits during race season will get you everything you need for a few bucks. No sense in buying anything with a date code on it new then letting it sit while you build around it. When the car is ready to hit the track, order all the bolt on expireables and have at is.

Its shaping up nicely. keep it up.

    Very Cool..!

    Keep at it bro.

One more thing - when ( fitting ) your self into your new rail, make a quick & dirty seat pan to sit on.

Many times I have seen guy's ( sitting on da tubes ) for fittment -

This will let you drop down in the ch***is farther than the full area of a seat will.

And like was just said, helmet, jacket & gloves need to be on.
