This summer at a show I met this guy named Dave Crane, he had an altered and a dragster at this show, so we started talking, and it turns out he is from Battle Creek, Michigan and is really outgoing and invites us too his place, says he always has a party the weekend of the NSRA Kalamazoo show and we should come by and check out his place if I'm into this stuff. Satuday night Roadstar, Hotrodladycrusr, and I stopped in to see him. I felt like a kid at Christmas, from hot rod albums to posters to jigsaw puzzeles on the walls. FED Dragster chassis, on top of dragster chassis, nailheads, hemis, V8-60's. The coolest thing was he isn't a part whore, a lot of the parts were on blown blocks or stuff that was unusable anymore he said he use to trade people a head that was milled to much for a good head he had sitting around as long as he could use it on a display engine, and it wasn't for one of his running setups, he didn't care. I should have taken more pics but there was too much to look at. I think Denise has more. Here are the pics: If the pics flake out got here: Dave Crane's
Cool new avatar Gus Yeah wasn't that place to die for. I'm still seeing stuff in your pics I didn't see there. The place was overwhelming and Dave is too cool for sharing all of that stuff. I know of many similar collections hidden away never to be enjoyed by people who apreciate that kind of thing. I will defenatly go back at the next oppertunity.
I don't think you could have got me out of there! My Gawd, this guy has all of the cool stuff that I want.
Once again caught making voom, voom sounds last weekend. I took a ton of photos at Dave's place they just need to be resized. I'll work on it later tonight and post more in a bit. This one will have to tide you dudes over for now.
As promised, more photos from Saturday nite. I wasn't the only one making voom, voom sounds that nite! Dave Crane, our host, is currently working on getting this one built. For anyone who is heading to the Hot Rod Reunion next month, Dave will be there with Ralph Kitron and the Swamp Fox FED. Tell him Gus, Denise and Rudy said "Hi".
[ QUOTE ] Drool. Drool. Drool! Is any of that stuff for sale? 1 piece in particular. Damn I'm jealous. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah is any of it for sale???
I need a minute alone...with a sheepskin glove and a roll of paper towels! That is amazing! What a great guy to invite everyone in and let it all be seen. I've got a guy locally that has a collection that very easily rivals this but he won't let me take any pictures at all. About 12 funny cars, a few rails including some old 4 engined jobber, lots of parts and other weird stuff. I've dealt with him a few times but he doesn't really sell anything of the cool stuff but REALLY knows his stuff and is big on researching the historys and making things extremely correct. He is the kind of guy that probably should own it from a preservation standpoint but unfortunately few to no people will ever see it and it is a great stash of history.
Dave is VERY generous in allowing folks to see his collection and roam free. He's always teasing though that he has a metal detector that everyone must go thru when they leave. He's very knowledgeable about each piece and will talk for HOURS and HOURS if he has an interested and attentive person/persons there. I believe there was a photographer from National Dragster that paid him a visit a while back and I think there was a 5-6 page article on his place in this past March's issue. If someone has a copy of that maybe they could share a few tidbits of info from the article.
All that there is to say is W W That place is freakin awesome...looks like he has a few too many 97's though....they are just sitting there on the floor and should give them to me Very cool stuff...awesome that there are great people like him that preserve history and show it to those who truly appreciate it! That 4 barrel flatty intake is pretty cool...I just got my Edelbrock Catalog in the mail and they are now making them but the price is to be announced...most likely around $300-400 seeing as the Super Dual is $340 or so. Thanks for the pics...great stuff! Greg
Thankyou for posting those images. Some of the best old race cars I've seen in a while. Good that Dave allows others to share his collection. To much stuff in hidden away these days! Geoff aka Whodaky
I usually never get jealous over stuff that others got and i don´t,but this is to much to ignore, damn!I want it all!I´ll have to go down in my garage and hug my hemi for awhile... thanks for sharing the pic´s!
Great place to do a "Garage Crawl" and get a history lesson to boot...! Thanks for the photo's..., I love this place...! Mark
Again... unfuckingbelievable... Get that man to drag some of his iron out to the HAMB Drags to RUN IT! Sam.
I talked to him about the HAMB Drags in June but he already had plans for that weekend BUT he did say that he'd be interested in going next year. He doesn't have a computer so I'll keep him up to date via the phone when Ryan decides on a date for next year. Us GMB will help him do whatever is necessary to get as many of his toys to the drags. I also mentioned the Hunnert Car PileUp which he seemed excited about attending but again he had plans for that weekend already. He's located 1 1/2 hours from my place so the next time a group of HAMB folks are in town we can cruz over there and check out his garage again.
Good god man! I had to wait for my eyes to stop rolling to the back of my head and wipe the drool from my chin before I could reply. What an amazing collection of wild stuff! Wingo!
