Back in 70's Portland Speedway had a porno drive in in the center. But both are gone now.

Sounds awesome- I prob'ly won't be able to check it out, but as an announcer @ Samoa Dragstrip I could let people know about it, for their summer plans. pm or email me info and/or a flyer if you've got it, I'd love to help. So with the 'strip gone, where will the weekend's racing happen?

Now I'm really confused. It's going to be porno drag racing? If that's the case I know I'll finish first. I talked to the world famous Swindlers about it last weekend. We're looking at making it a two day thing, cruise on down, then take a run up the peninsula on the way back. We'll have to see how it shakes out. Anyone got a trailer, sounds like a weekend I may blow another transmission, lucky I have a cord of um.

  7. Sorry didn't mean to sidetrack this cool thread. To close the porno drive in theater topic, it closed in the mid 80's (or thereabouts) according to my wife. It has nothing to do with the drag strip, other than both are in Shelton, WA. :D

Dug, Thats great news about the world famous "Swindlers" coming down! I also appreciate the early warning as I will make sure my daughter is out of town and my Dog is locked up!!! I'm really looking forward to seeing all of the "HAMBERS"! Rick

  10. This is so damned cool! You are getting some real support, I hope they all show up. I went to the ANRA opener in Palmdale Cali and the stands needed more butts. The way NHRA is going this is just the tonic drag racing urgently needs. I wish I was about 8 or 9 hundred miles closer. I'd be there cooking chili and mixing Bloodies, slaving in the pits and getting bleacher splinters in my BUTT IN THE STANDS. If my Vipers were that much closer, we'd come and make the joint REEK of CH3NO2, the 'secret sauce', the 'Elixer of the Gods of Acceleration', the 'Tonic of Ultimate Velocity.' NITRO.

Have a blast, post pix and keep in contact with the other guys doing this thing. I've been hanging at the races since Hector was a pup, and he's an OLD dog now. NHRA is NOT the future, this is. Keep it up.

A Tip of the Viper Top Hat to you folks. I'm gonna bust out bawlin' like a baby. (sniff)

Sorry for the slow reply, alot has passed under the bridge in the last few weeks. There will be NO drags this year thanks to the Shelton Port Commission (to much too soon for them) however they "SAY" that next year is OK. I wouldn't want to give odds on this but who knows? I'll be at the Hotrodarama if any body wants more info... See ya Rick

Sorry to hear that Rick, I know you put a lot of effort in to this.

I hope next year will work out, we would look forward to go south for some rumble.

  16. Yeah, that's too bad Rick. Thanks for the follow up though. Hopefully an earlier start next year will help get the bureaucrats in motion and make this happen. Let us know if you need any help. Even if it's just a letter writing campaign to the council members (I assume you are dealing with the Shelton city council on this) to tell them how many people from outside of Shelton are planning on coming and spending money in their fine town. Sometimes they need to hear from us common folk to get them off the dime! :D

  17. Superbell, any updates on this? It's not too early to start thinking about this. Hopefully the city of Shelton stands behind their word from last year. As I mentioned above, let us all know if there is anything we can do. We can put the power of the HAMB in motion at the drop of a hat!:D

    Hello all,
A few new details, I am no longer involved in this venture as most of the original officers and I did not like the direction this event was being steered.
They are moving ahead and are planning to hold a race BUT against my advice they are holding it the same weekend as HOTRODARAMA. The fellow who is running the show(Shelton Drags) just doesn't get the picture soooo even if I live 5 minutes away from the strip I'm going to be at the Hotrodarama. I'll do my racing again at the Nostaligia Drags @ Pacific Raceways.

Anybody got some old Shelton Drag strip photos from the 50's? I'm looking for photos of my Hot flatty powered '34 Ford Roadster that Bill Snyder used to race there in the 50's. Thanks !
