A bunch of other uses too all basically to add friction. Baseball, gymnast, bull riding, bowling and violin bows to name a few. I saw them use it at Old Dominion a few years ago before they closed and the one thing I remember is that it stung your eyes if you were too close to a burn out cloud. Probably had pitch in it.

 

Sure would be nice to buy a tenth of a second in a can now days.

 

I see the nascar boys sprinkle coke syrup all over the pit box..Don't know if helps the cars any or the pit crew..

 

I remember the Midget races in the old Chicago Amphitheater, they ran indoors on smooth concrete floors and used Coke syrup on the track for traction. Close racing, but the ventilation was so poor it would gag a maggot!

 

a can of nitro will give you a tenth. get a drum for a few seconds.

 

Used to keep a barrel of the gold stuff under the tower at Northern Michigan Dragway and later at Central Michigan Dragway, back in the seventies. Then switched to 55 gal. VHT. Smelled like tire repair glue and we used an old pump garden sprayer. Sprayed the track starting line before every meet. Jim liked axle bustin, wheel standin traction!
