In Utah they first raced on the old Airport runway in the 50s. Then in the early 60s there was Neilsons "Salt Lake Raceway", It operated until 1966. About 1964 The first "Bonneville Drag strip" was built. It operated until 67. In 1965 "Copper Raceway" was built and operated about a year and a half. In 1968 the new Bonneville Raceway Park was opened and operated until 1996 or so and then was rebuilt as "Rockey Mountain Raceway". Hard to believe in 1965 there were 3 Drag strips in the Salt Lake Valley within 15 miles of each other.
St. George on the the old emergency field on top of the bluff . Famous for the home town decision . Saw the **** Stewart Dodge beat a guy from Cedar 5 open on the big end and was declared the loser,HMMM !
Mel Larson's Phoenix Drag Strip (later called "Speedworld") was in continuous operation from 1961 up until last year when it closed due to slapped ***, beaurocratic nonsense. Also, there was a short lived dragstrip at P.I.R. in the early 1960's.
