We had a great time, too. The cooler temps were A-Ok with all of us. Also, there were a lot more food vendors to choose from this year which is always good.

Israel won the Burn Out Competition w/ his '65 Ford F100 on Sunday. (Woohooo!) Everyone who hung around for the massive display of smoke were treated to some great burn outs!! Thanks to everyone who provided words of encouragement, applause, tire-changing assistance, took photos, c.c. logo door painting, etc.

My only recommendation for next year is for new Suv's, Hondas, etc, to stay out of the "car show area" parking. We were surrounded by new cars and at times it killed the overall mood/vibe of the show.

I know, I know... I had a wedding to go to. Ironically, I was on the same road, in the '36 going to the wedding on the same day I would have been driving to Ohio!

As for old versus new.... wasn't that on Friday night only? The only really newer cars I saw on the track were on Sunday during the Fun runs and quick 16 which was cool.
If people step up and speak out, things could change a little. Flood their voicemail and email box
The newer cars just parked in the show area were a bummer, but you will have morons saying they are with somebody just to park there. Sometimes it is up to us to complain then and have them moved.
76 and older, we will need to live with it, the cut off was at least 33 years... those are old cars as much as we hate to say it. Nostalgia for their time I guess.
As for myself, had a great time there with my kids, went Saturday and Sunday, will return. Price to get in was reasonable compared to others and kids are always free (Bonus for me, I have 3) and so is camping (unlike Norwalk)

I really do not know what happened to this post, I just wanted to say I had a good time...... Well, I did.

I guess you missed the parts earlier in this thread about how peeps that have been there at this event in the past were bummed about the changes and told the powers that be at the track as much. Fell on blind eyes and deaf ears.

I bet for every newer then 72 car there, there would have been at least one pre-73 car there to replace it IF it would have been billed as strickly a nostalgia event. I know I sat home last weekend but would have attended like in the past.

I got there saturday after 3pm and had a blast! Great to see familar faces and meet some new ones! Racing action was good, but I ended up walking around more than watchin the track. The fuel cars and what not only gong 1/8 mile sucked, but it was for their safety as even I saw the heavy 130mph cars getting loose and wiggly. The bands were great, as usual Jim, and rocked out. Swap meet was cool, Huge thick ass funnel cakes were great, esp with the raspberry sauce.. The Monster BBQ truck was pretty intimidating, but tasty food, and thankfully the Dragway 42 bugers are still the bees knees!! pics to follow

Yes, I didnt catch all of that, sorry, but still, no need to stop with the comments to them. The squeeky wheel should eventually get greased.
Bad part is, by not attending, then the overall event may be lost. I feel the best thing is to out number the newer stuff and make point of it. Just my 2 cents.

Still point was I still enjoyed the event.

I would have liked to have attended this event as a racer, however it wasn't a good match between the track and my particular car - I'll leave it at that. Now hearing there was no EMS I'm glad I didn't go. My ride ain't all that fast, but I've also seen slower cars hit the wall - I think the track (any track) OWES the racers a certain degree of "givens" -as in some sort of safety patrol should be mandatory in my book. Hey one minute I hear there's no EMS - the next minute they're talking about running fuel cars - holy toledo - I hope that was a mis-communication of some sort.

That said - I'm glad the event went well - maybe they'll make enough money off it to continue to invest more in it next year - maybe they could lure more of those on the fence to take the plunge.

As far as being heard - I thought that's what we were trying to do.

We do consider all input from this board, as well as all other sources we can find. You are all entitled to your opinions on this event, but there are 2 points I want to address.

First, as to the late model cars that were permitted to run on Saturday and Sunday. We did not intend to allow late model cars to run after Friday, but our flyer was a little ambiguous. It was pointed out that the flyer made it appear that only the Pro class was limited to model year, and since it was only 4 or 5 cars out of over 200, we decided that we should let them run. The flyer will be more specific next year.

Second, and more important, we did have 2 certified EMTs on duty throughout the entire event. I think the confusion comes from the fact that we called the local squad to transport the injured to Lodi Hospital. Our squad does not transport. If someone is critically injured, we call Lifeflight, which has a chopper based 3 miles from the track. If it is not a critical injury, we call the local squad to transport. This allows us to continue racing without waiting for the track squad to return from transporting. Our squad did immobilize, extract (with a little help from some big guys), and stabilize the patient, and when the local rescue squad arrived, they just had to load him and go. Fortunately, the patient was not badly injured, and from what I've heard, is OK.

This years event was the biggest ever, and we look forward to next year. I would like to publicly thank Jim Murphy for all the work he did in the past to help build this event, and for dealing with booking all the bands for this years event. From what he told me, it wasn't an easy task. Thanks Jim.

Thanks to all of you, and we look forward to seeing you next year.

    The Ehrmantraut Family,
    Dragway 42

P.S. - Ya'll are welcome to come out any Tuesday or Friday night for fun runs!

Sounds like it was a good show (again). I wish I could've made it.

The Hunnert Car Heads-Up is happening on Aug 9 after the Symco Shakedown. I'm sure we'll have a number of bugs and hiccups to work out since it's our first year, but hopefully we'll get some cars to show up and turn it into a great event like the Rock N Race.

I brought my oldest racing friend with me, we got there at noon and left about 1:30am. We had a very good time, but I can't say that for our cooler of beer. We beat the hell out of it all day long! JC

Here is my contribution. One of my buddies ...a member of the ERIE MODIFIEDS finished this jem and low and behold hit the guard rail and rolled up on one side. Both riders were jarred and one went to the hospital and I think is now OK. The other 472CAD here on the HAMB finished nicely with margaritas that evening. A true hotrodder!

So that was the accident I've heard about? There were two people in the car going down the track? Where is the ambulance and crew? Car show/fun runs/top fuel race, I don't care what it is there should ALWAYS be an ambulance at a track when people are going down it!

Glad to hear your friend(s) is ok. Cars can be fixed but bodies take a little longer :D

Picture clearly shows one of the two EMTs who were on-duty at the event (the white haired gentleman) placing a neck collar on occupant who is standing up inside the car.

The track's dedicated safety truck is the lime green vehicle parked directly behind the car, but partially hidden in this photo.

The person standing behind the EMT is another member of the track crew with the track's Hurst "Jaws of Life" (you can see the hydraulic line) in hand if needed.

I am the passanger who was in the wreck. Myself and the driver are doing fine. Thanks for all of the concern that was expressed during and after the wreck!! From what I can piece together from after the accident, the Dragway 42 crew was very professional and the EMT's quick to respond. I had a great time Friday night up untill the spill on Saturday. I will be back next year. Thanks again to all who helped pull my big ass out of the truck and get me to the hospital. Time to start rebuilding the truck I guess. :)

I was wondering if that was true? and if it had seatbelts.... Glad to hear it all worked out...I really like DragRacing at this track........Littleman

I never assumed once there was not EMTs available. Not sure how that rumored started.

There I was drinking a Slush Puppie, watching the races, and Boom! the accident happened. The announcer immediately asked the crowd to stay back and let the "EMTs and crew do their jobs."

In seconds there was an explosion of fans & people who RAN down the length of the track to snap photos. Which at the time I thought was a little morbid to do, ya know?

I snapped a photo to drink a margarita over with the driver. He has now brought fame to the ERIE MODIFIEDS. These are the things legends are made of. He also stated that "friction shocks dont work for shit!":) Lady Luck was a sticker on the back of his rod. They did walk away.

All this "tradional" equipment can be a problem,
friction shocks and dragstrips don't mix, Preach all the traditional mumbo jumbo you want but safety on the road or track is the priority. Same goes for those 30 and 40 year old biased ply "MAYPOP" tires.

All this is fine for cruisin the fairgrounds, but not at speed. my life is way too important.
