  7. Same here, hope you recover quickly Don. That sounds like a terrible misfortune to happen to a great guy.

Just got back from the Asphalt Ego Rama last night.
It was a great event, but the entire crew was saddened by the incident. Don and his buddy Rotten Rodney are without questions two of the coolest guys I've ever met, and we were all bummed (including the other participants) when he couldn't continue on to Phoenix. The entire R&C crew wishes Don a speedy recovery, and we're fully expecting to see him try again next year.

On the lighter side, the first night we went over to Barris' shop and took a little tour with George, who then came out to look at all the cars. When he got to Don's primered A coupe, he commented "Nice little Model A, it'll be cool when its finished." That really brought a smile to all of our faces.

If you're reading this, get well soon buddy.

You going to fill us in on who walked away as the Ego-Rama "winner"? We all promise not to tell anyone if it's a "state" secret [IMG]

Eventhough I only was able to participate in 2 days of the Ego Rama, I met some really great people and have some new friends. Several of my existing friends REALLY stepped up to show how strong the friendships are by helping me when I needed it most, both in thrashing to get the car ready and helping me when I got hurt. I'll never forget it.

You pretty much heard what happened already (amazing that the story didn't get twisted with each telling). I had the car backed in at an angle, about 2 feet from the wall of Randy Clark's new body shop. We we're getting ready to leave so, I opened the door to the coupe to fire it up and let it warm up a bit before we headed to the hotel. I must have left the car in reverse when I parked it because when it started it lunged backward hitting the wall and throwing me onto the ground.

911, cops, paramedics, emergency, x-rays, CAT Scans and then at 4:00am in the rain I was discharged. Lucky for me, RottenRodney got me to his place and took care of me for a few days until I could get out of bed long enough to go to the bathroom. Friday He got me to my doc for a quick check and then handed me off to my mon and dad. They took me home and are watching after me until I recover. I've weaned myself off of the prescription pain meds because I don't like the side effects. Just Advil and a muscle relaxer before bed. I still have a headache but the hole in my head is healing OK. My lower back is still sore but it gets better every day. I figure I'll be about 75% recovered by the end of the week. It might take a month or so to get back to 100%.

The car isn't too bad. The left fender got banged up (again on the way to AZ). We left the car at Randy's shop. Rod said he was going to get it and take it over to the shop where he works yesterday. It wouldn't surprise me a bit to get it back repaired, that's the kind of friends these guys are. No matter if it's not, they've already done a lot for me.

In the process of making changes I installed a B&M Pro Ratchet shifter WITH the neautral safety switch. We went through great lengths to ensure that the switch was installed, adjusted and working properly. That's what's so baffling to me. How did this happen? Oh well, I'll never trust a neutral saftey switch again. I'll run them, but I won't bet my life or health on them.

Thanks for all your well wishes. I'm healing fast and I'll be back tearing up the streets in no time.

    Don

What put the hole in your head...? Compression fracture...?

Well, Don, I hope you get better fast.
I'm sure you have thought about it alot already, but I really think you should start some kind of negligence suit against B&M. The neutral safety switch is for just that, SAFETY. If you can prove that this switch was defective, you might save HUNDREDS of others from the same (or worse) fate that you suffered, or at least get your medical bills paid for, maybe a little bonus for retirement. THEIR shifter didn't go into park when it was supposed to, and THEIR safety switch failed, and now you are hurt and your car is damaged, and it could have been alot worse. What if your kids (or anyone else) were playing behind the car?
I'm not condoning the "lawsuit happy" crap that everyone seems to be getting in on, this is not, in any way, a frivelous claim.
I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just saying that you should think about it, because you certainly have a case. If some lady can sue McDonalds for hot coffee....

But the most important thing is getting yourself back on the road, we need someone to cover all of the events.

Glad to hear that you're on the mend Don. It's nice to have friends that you can rely on.
Those neutral safety switches can finicky things to set up.
I'd like a buck for every car that I've had to fail in tech because of that. Who says that the car has to start in neutral anyway? The best is a push button swith that the shifter hits when it is in park.

Don, I'm glad to hear you're on the mend already.

All issues of nuetral safety switches aside, this reminded me of a personal mania: Parking/Emergency Brakes! People who know me give me crap about setting the hand brake every time I park, even in a flat parking lot. I used to live in the Carolina mountains, and a working parking brake was a must-have.

I thought about Don's mishap this weekend while I was unloading my Chevro-Mullet 1/2 ton; I reached in the open door to turn off the ignition with the truck in Park, and remembered that the guy who built it didn't install a parking brake. I just bought the truck a few months ago, and I don't use it much, but I need to put a brake in it, just the same.

    Stay safe, Kinky6 [IMG]

If you need a fender, I have a fair drivers side that you can have if you need it... [IMG]
