Projects Drdave accidentally buys a Model A. Now what?

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by drdave, Jun 17, 2018.

  1. Yeah my Conway sourced 53 is being built to use as a daily driver lol. Part of what's taking so long on my build. Overthinking everything lol

  2. I guess I never got around to posting about whether or not I made it to the Roc...well I did.

Thanks to @winduptoy, he helped me assess the tuning, etc., and gave me some suggestions on a few things. I've been driving it around town to work and back since I got back and it's never run better. I'm finally getting a handle on how to drive it. LOL

Here is is out of the shop with all the '32 additions finished:

Really happy with how it came together. That is why it is with no small amount of sadness that this is pretty much the last update as my time with the car is drawing to a close. I've lucked into a dream purchase (that is still on the down low for now) and I'm out of room, so the A will be going up for sale. It's been a fun ride, I've learned a lot. I'm going to be sad to see the ol' girl go. :( Thank you all for following along, your input, comments, help and encouragement. Sadly, @stanlow69 would be saying, "get to work on the Merc" right about now and he isn't here to see that's where I'm headed next in the shop....back to work on the Dork Merc. LOL

I totally understand not wanting to jinx it by telling people before it is a done deal..... can't wait to hear about it...

  6. It's a done deal, but it probably won't be in my possession for a little while until I get some room. It's no fun to say "Look what landed in my lap" when you don't really have it in hand and can post pics. People get mad around here when there's no pics. Haha!

Really a great job getting it going, now I do expect Merc will be running next week

  12. I love your 32 Dave!!! If another sedan ever ends up in the garage it will be a 32-34.

    Me too.... LOL

Wellllllll.....I have some paint touch up to do on the Chevy to have it ready for Starbird's in Feb, so I guess I spoke a little quickly. But, even still, the Merc is in full tear down and won't be back on the road for quite some time. Fortunately the new car is a done one....Michelle is most happy about projects leaving to make room for a finished car. LOL

  13. Dave, when I posted the photo of my former sedan I also wrote something that didn't show up. I too sold my fordor sedan about a year after I finish putting it together because I had DSC04619.JPG to many cars. It went to a great guy in Georgia and he loves it.

  14. Well I’m done waiting…what’s the new car?:)

Damn….that A sure turned out nice.

  18. Welllllll…..it will be a little bit before I can talk too much about that, but I will when it’s time. Right now I just gotta focus on clearing a parking space for it. Lol

Thank you much! I appreciate it!

are you going to list the Model A in the classifieds here???

  21. Yes. Gathering pics of all the extra stuff that goes with it. Hope to have it listed in the next day or two. I'll post a link here to the ad.

  23. Well, all that stuff I said about the A going up for sale to make room.....never mind....we reorganized the shuffling of the stack and what is going where, so the A is staying. New ride won't be here until likely Feb or early March, so that gives us some time fit all 86 pounds in the 10 pound sack. LOL We now return you to your regularly scheduled program. Haha!!

Glad you could keep it, really like the work you did on it- assume expanding space is out of the question?

  25. Actually, expanding the space has already been in the plans, we just haven't gotten there yet. My current shop has one garage door at the end, so getting the car in front of the door out is no problem, but if I want to drive any other car, I have to unload the shop to get it out and then I'm late to work. LOL Also, looking ahead to retirement in the coming years and knowing I'll need a space for all the junk from the office (I'm not leaving the car furniture, gas pumps, signs and memorabilia for the next doc lol). So, we are working on an additional garage to put the drivers in so any car can be driven out without unburying it as well as a lounge area with all the office doodah. Like I said, we aren't that far along, but should have something going later this year, so we decided in the meantime we will just move stuff to other places to get by.

  26. Good plan! As @Moriarity says, selling only leads to future regret.

Told my wife the other day I was thinking about filling in the pool so I could expand my garage- that was divorce topic #58! Seriously I do hope you can do it as I found after retiring my little shop has really become a great mancave!

That’s cool! Moving to our new house and being able to just hit a garage door opener button and drive right out was a game changer. Previously it was the car shuffle, open the door, move the car, get out and shut the door and shuffle all
the cars again just to drive a fun car. Still taking me a while to get used to it

  29. Exactly @Tim! You've seen my shop and I've got the same scramble you had (although I don't have to get around a washer and a hot water heater LOL). I'm aspiring to be you and have click of the button ease! :)

  30. Early March!! Look at all that time you have to work on the Merc!! Heh, heh.
p.s. I feel your "garage shuffle" pain as well - but, I'd rather do that than sell something!
