Very cool caddy! I looked at the photos and figured out the valve cover trick before I read its mention in the text. I believe hilldibrant made dimpled caddy covers for this reason. Similar to the more commonly found industrial hemi covers with the dimples. I always enjoy seeing how guys work around this issue! On my Chevy the corvette covers wouldn’t clear the valve train so I used an aluminum spacer to gain some space.
Local guy scored these but before that he made. A set of stamped covers fit. Thought the shot of how much the Studebaker rockers don’t fit under the caddy covers would be valuable.
I know better than to peruse the ads! Too many distractions! @Tim great pictures! They will help somebody!
Hello, The FED chassis looks like an old K-88 square bar unit in the back. But, as the safety standards rose, so did the requirements for head clearance. As we know, the 1960 national champion was the Albertson Olds K-88 Chassis with a supercharged Oldsmobile motor. They beat a stellar field with Leonard Harris driving. The team at the Nationals in 1960. At the Lion’s Dragstrip Museum in 2019 Jnaki So, this old rusty version has a long way to go, but the idea of owning a FED race car is daunting… Note: In August of 1960, this was the big news: My brother and I had the perfect motor for an FED race car with our build of a 292 c.i. SBC motor with a new 671 supercharger on top. It was available during the 1960 U.S. Nationals, too. Note2: So, any car with a Moon Tank in front of the grille, sticking out, (after August 1960) took the new rules to the extreme with the nightmare car insurance folks running for the exits...YRMV
My brother ran a X\FD with a 194 Pontiac 4 out of a Tempest in 63-64 and then put a Pontiac V8 in it before he sold it, I found the car a few years before he passed away and tried to talk him into buying it back and putting it back together. I offered to help with the project but he wasn't interested.
That’s mine. I don’t know why I didn’t think to list it here. I’ve actually got two Cadillac engines. Both were dragster engines. Both have have all the goodies. One is assembled with a 6x2 and one is partially disassembled with a flat plane crank (which was pretty badass in 1960 and actually still is now in my opinion) and Hilborn. If I sell it, I’d give the buyer choice of engines. if I keep it, the flat plane crank and Hilborn goes in it and I’ll build a roadster for the 6x2 engine eventually
