not so much old school but hey. The ladies are home made. but i have always liked the mickeys too. i had these in the for sale section for a while. oh and you cant beat an offy intake. screw that edelbrock performer crap. same with carbs..its a ford: holley, autolite, motorcraft..only way to go
Funny huh but you NEVER see the same dumb comments when some guy rolls out a 327 or a 409 in an early 60's style rod. Education goes a long way.
Thanks man, that mag is a Mallory mini mag if you take a look Dragula and the Manta Ray used the same one. It was NOS but I sold it after trying to find spares or adapt parts to it without destroying what it was. I almost made it a magnetic breakerless unit but just couldn't do it. Instead it lives on in a Desoto rail.
yes those are fe valve covers , i'm running roller rockers and couldn't find a set of smallblock valve covers i liked so i had my machinist buddy whip me up a set of adapters ! i know theres a company that makes the adapters for kit car cobras to run the fe pent proof covers on small blocks to dress em like 427s but they are pricey , my friend is cheaper doing it for the material and a few drinks at the local watering hole ! so i figured why not a set of cheepie fe covers , i really want a set of the mercury ones ! i know i'll prolly catch hell for em but don't care and they clear the rollers !
i think it's a rad set up. and while it's fake, it's kinda legit too since you need the extra space for the rollers. i like it.
The modified heads Jegs was making may benefit from use of a similar adapter to run the FE covers. I almost bought a set but not being able to run correct style SBF covers killed my interest at that time.
Well guys,,,,I am not a ford man,,sorry. But,,Dirtbag13's setup is really cool,,,he knows what he is doing,,,that is what an engine and tranny combo should look like. Awesome,,,my hat is off to you. By the way,,,I am warming to Fords. Tommy
---------------------------- One super low-buck idea for some very cool, very different looking valve covers would be to take either some stock stamped steel covers or maybe a pair of plain-jane factory cast aluminum covers from a late '80's-early '90's 5 litre engine - glass bead them to get them nice and clean and then paint them with zinc 'splatter paint' used for car trunks. Once you have a few coats of "splatter paint" on, use several more coats of gloss clear or semi-gloss clear to protect the 'splatter paint' and give it a smooth finish. You could do this on a few other parts as well - like the starter, oil pan, oil filter and air breather too.. We did this on a few race cars we built back in the late 80's and it always got a lot of looks and comments from passers by in the pits. A few guys would always came up and ask - "what kind are they?", "who makes those valve covers?"and "where can I buy some" etc. etc. Nobody ever seemed to figure out that it was just rattle-can trunk paint and clear coat! We used to just smile and say "You can't get them. We have them custom made for us....and they cost hundreds of dollars!" LOL mart =============================================
T-Time The covers are knock-off FE pentroofs made to fit sbf's without the use of adapters. I got valve covers off ebay awhile ago. I think the seller was "classicspeed" or something like that? I believe they are also sold through PAW?
Thanks! I checked PAW, and the part number is COB-1700 for plain, and COB-1701 for valvecovers with "427" on them.
There are a set of valve covers I have only seen once that I'd love to find. They have more fins than the Cal Customs and just as deep. They look just like the M/T covers but with no breather holes and no M/T or any other logo on them. No idea if they were custom or what.
Someone needs to make a adapter to put the dizzy in the back of the block like where it belongs, Seriously, the old Cobra stuff, is what looks right at home on the old SBF.
Picture 244.jpg I'm going all black with white headers on the 289. Gonna try to hide all the wires and keep it sanitary.
back in the mid 90's ford svo offered a set of 351 w valve covers that were a combination valve cover and rock arm stud girdle. special rocker arm bolts extended thru the valve cover and were capped off with acorn nuts .tied the head ,rocker arms, and valve cover together not very close to a flathead for a gearhead ,but you could sure bs someone to see how much they know . sorry i can't even find a picture anymore
