I agree you you wholeheartedly. You have to remember that many on here build hotrods from behind their keyboard and only know what they have read on the internet or what they have heard the "bigboys" say. I will continue to build my cars to suite myself and seek out qualified people to help when needed. It doesn't make any difference to me what anyone on here thinks is safe or not. As for drilling and sleeving split wishbones, do it with care and do not go overboard with the holes. I made that mistake, not one of my shining moments, lol. Thank god the one bone failed when and where it did.

my old boss a few bosses back had a tig from the early forties, it was the size of a chest freezer, and the branding was in gold leaf, and the handpiece came in a wooden dovetailed box lined with velvet crush.
Nothing wrong with a properly performed Mig weld on mild steel with a suitable machine . To this day most brackets on axles are still being welded with this process . Drill them holes ! They will look badass ! Your a welder , you choose the process you feel will be the best for you . This is not rocket science .
