    hey guys,

still not sure what im doing for a trans in my ford but i was
just wondering what you guys are using for a drive shaft when you swap to a sbc and a th350.

the last time i did it i went on what seemd to be an endless hunt for a specific trunk driveshaft to have cut down just a touch. im tigh ton cash so im not about to just go and have one made custom. And this swap is done ALL the time so theres a gota be some junkyard unit thats a good swap in for this application.

what have you used in the past?

I had a place in vegas make one for me. They keep used cores and had one they could shorten and balance. I supplied noting and got a shaft with new joints, balanced and the trans yoke for around $150

i had a custom shaft made once, they shortened a pickup driveshaft i had and balanced it, ran me 150 bones. on the 57, johnny shortened it for me, and i ran a conversion u joint on the front to run the 700r yoke. all i woulda had to do then was get it balanced, but it dont need it. seems, you could spend all day measuring shafts at a boneyard, and hope you dont get one that was bent by the forks on the frontend loader.. napa has a good book to find the conversion u jount you need to put the th350 yoke on the driveshaft. shorten it, you grind the welds on the shaft at the end, then cut the tube at reweld it onto the cap. i measured from the seat of the rear u joint and to the tailshaft of the trans, or slip the yoke in up to the wear marks and measure from u joint seat to seat. thats how i did it anyways. if it viberates, you are still gonna have the expence of balance. like i learned on my 55, everyone might mount the motor differently, some are 2-3 inches different depending on how far back or forward you mount it.

yeah ill prolly just have a buddy "section" one for me. and it it rattles my brains out ill drive a couple hours north and have the shop i used last time do it for like 25 bux.

curious to see how long its going to have to be, last time i think i mounted it kinda high and maybe a hair to forward and thats why it was so dang long but we'll have to see.

trying to think of what vehicles would have a fairly long one peice drive shaft stock. theres no way i can find cash to have one made
