Drive Train Question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by MrManz, Feb 20, 2006.

  1. I was talking to someone about my setup and they were saying that it wouldnt work. The back of the tranny is setup for a U-joint and the rear end is setup for a U-joint. There isnt a Yoke at either end. What is that going to mean about the driveshaft? Do i need to try and find a new tranny? The tranny is a toploader out of a 60's chevy truck, and the rear end is a 10bolt nova rearend.

Easy fix, copy the original truck design. two piece drive shaft with a slip yoke at the carrier to allow it to "grow" and "shrink", if I understood your question correctly.

I bought a very rotted out '49 Olds for the drivetrain ('64 394/'37 Cadillac trans), and it had a two piece driveshaft with a splined shaft sliding inside the rest of the shaft with u joints bolted solid at each end.
