I wish my dad could have driven the 55 more then he did,he did drive it for the first 12 years then it sat in the garage until he died so I am going to make up for lost time and drive it when I can.

So, is it Tech Week yet?

  4. Sure are a lot of folks on here that worry about someone else's life and how they do things. Funny, I didn't think it was anyone else's business.

  6. Salt on the road is not a valid excuse at all. They wash.

I can understand some fellas being afraid to bang one up in the bad weather, but I don't find that to be a valid excuse either. It is really a kind of a Homer Simpson excuse, "I'm afraid." I mean hell who really wants to admit that.

But back to it, what is the point. I wouldn't listen to my dad why would I listen to a kid. :D:D

I guess it all depends on what you own. I could never own a vehicle I couldn't drive every day of the year. Luckily I live in central VA with mild winters. My DD only vehicle is a '49 Chevy 1/2 ton with a 3sp+od that I can split shift to get 6 forward gears. Just came back a week ago from a second 1K trip this year.

I was at an event called The Pasture Party, great show of steam and gas tractors, vintage cars/trucks all comers are welcome to come and show your vehicle. I'm sitting with friends from my old truck club and a guy who I had seen getting out of a cherry '62 Nova convert says,"Who's truck is that?!" I say, yep that's mine. He goes, when you gonna paint it? I say I like it just the way it is. He looks at his buddy then looks at me and says, No REALLY, when are you going to paint it? I stand to stretch my legs and say, I've got more miles in reverse on my truck than you have going forward in your car. I believe that to be the actual truth because I only see that car once a year.

Happy trails to you, till we meet again,

    Cosmo

Oh no!!! Are you telling me flathead traditional rods are trendy?

    Honestly,I couldn't agree more.
And aren't they the same (original) guys that built the traditional style cars we dig today?

I'm having a hard time understanding the point of this thread. Can anyone summarize? I'm not trying to be funny here, I really don't follow.

A little respect for the older guys is in order. That would include me. I've owned lots of cars & driven them all. I've built cars from a sketch on a napkin in a year to the other extreme- my 37 coupe shell that's been sitting on 2 furniture dollys for 12 years now. I don't need to "live the life" & drive a hot rod everyday. I also don't need some snot nosed kid telling me how to be a hot rodder. I was doing this shit before you were a gleem in your daddy's eye. Remember- we built & drove our shit before you did. We were driving when you were sitting in your crib. We are older now & after 50 years of it- it doesn't need to be our whole life now. Hell- I had to buy a 4 post lift last year because my knees aren't what they used to be. I've driven in the pouring rain- I don't need to do it now to prove anything & I don't need anyone telling me I'm less of a rodder because I don't fit your mold.
My 37 may take me another 12 years to finish. So what? What's it to you?
Stop worrying about others & worry about your own shit.

I had a guy tell me this morning that no on would look at your car at a car show if it didn't have "modern" wheels and tires on it meaning large billet wheels and thin wide tires. He went so far as to say that his friends say that no one runs that "old stuff" anymore as it is out of style.
I just said "that's ok, but I don't like that modern stuff and will run the old style stuff on my car to get the look I want". Got a deer in the headlights look on that one though.

But he's 'Badass' and a 'Man'.
If you need a rod to be a man then I suggest buying viagra...it's cheaper according to the commercials.

I drove Wednesday- to the Twilight Cruise at NHRA Museum.
I drove Sunday to a show- I drove Saturday to the mountains for lunch.
That meet your definition of a hot rodder?
