Check my link above. My over-aggressive auto correct, combined with typing on a phone, on a moving train made it something other than Lime Works.

Hold the presses!! You can use an open driveline Powerglide from a '55 thru '62 6 cylinder 235 engine behind your '53 without an adaptor. '59 thru '62 use a different shift pattern, but that is minor issue (PNDLR vs. PRNDL).

Talk to your ****** rebuilder about the commonality of internal parts between your '53 and the later units. Maybe you can salvage most of your rebuilt ****** with some mix and match parts swapping.

Btw, it isn't that I don't think a 700R4 or 2004R wouldn't be a good swap....they would,........just offering you an alternative that MAY have some financial savings for you.

As for the suspension and body/frame mods, the rest of the recommendations and cautions are spot on.

That might work, IF he can find a '55-on one. Not super common these days.

I have a good old powerglide from a 55 belair that now has a new set up. But I'm not shipping it. I'm not sure where Gilbert Az is, But When I need something like that I travel to Az on a parts trip. I'm not a trans expert but the 55 open drive line pg has a rear extension housing (about 8" long) that un bolts. Ask your trans guy if you can swap the output shaft and extension on you trans. OR MAYBE SOMEONE ON HERE KNOWS

My old 52 with a rebuilt 235 with an adapter plate(buffalo enterprise) to mount Turbo 350. Custom made drive shaft to a 72 el camino rear end. Drove highway speeds at ease with significant lower RPMs. Kept the original column shifter for OG looks and fabricated linkage to ******. All works well...

  11. OP's stock rearend has some resale value to a guy looking to get powerglide gears and bendix rear brakes in a 50 or older Chevy.
