Just a Quik Note to let you guys all know about the Motorsports display this fall at the "Haggin Museum" in Stockton, Ca. It will be a real good slice of our automotive history in the Stockton/Lodi (Kingdon) area. Don't Miss It! There will be quite a collection of important local cars, parts and memorabilia... I am "responsible" for 2 exhibits there, 1 - this '48 THames 1/4 ton delivery van (used in the museum flyer too) and I have a very Kool engine display there too..... The original 301 Chevy with 6 deuces from Bob Panella's '41 Willys!!! Ahhh Life is GOOD!.. If you are in the area DON'T you miss it!
I am in Lathrop and will definitely be there....need any help setting up? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Too cool. Uncle Ray ran at Kingdon in '54 in the roadster. I am also looking for any info on any shows that were held in Modesto/Stockton area in the fall/winter of 1954 as well.
Well.... Thank You very much for the offer but once we are on the Museum grounds we are obligated to use the Museum staff for "placement assistance". it will be fun!! hope you all enjoy the exhibit! Here is a sneak peek at the home-built 6x2 log type manifold that goes on the '63 era Panella motor....
There will be "something for everybody" there..... 1/2 of a Stockton area Funny Car Body to the Ochoa Brothers 1960 Impala Lowrider "Egyptian Gold".... Don't Miss it!!!
Sounds like a cool showing. Too bad it is a little far for a roadtrip. The intake looks good. Appears to be the bottom half of an old Rochester FI unit with the 'u fab' style logs added on? Make sure to post some pics when the showing is over!
Yes, it is built on a genuine early 1957 RottenChester F.I. unit..... It was on the motor in the little (Yellow, soon to be Red) '41 Willys that Bob Panella bought from John Eracaldi in early 1963. It is a very beautiful piece of work... John Eracaldi's Roadster won the very first Sac Autorama, the show was held in the service area of new car dealer Capitol Chevrolet on November 4-5, 1950. http://www.streetrodderweb.com/feat...s_thunderbolts_capital_auto_club/viewall.html With this setup, a Cad/Lasalle Trans & 6 lug Chevy rear in the little '41 Bob would win the "3rd Annual Pacific Coast Fuel & Gas Championship" held at Lodi's Kingdon Drag Strip.... The first of many wins for them!!!
Here is a preview of the John Eracaldi built engine that I will have on display in the "Driven to Dream" exhibit. With this engine in his '41 Willys truck Bob Panella beat Dale Emery in the final to win the 3rd annual "Pacific Coast Fuel & Gas Championship" at Kingdon in 1963.... (it will be taken in as a short block and assembled there)
Exhibits Installed Today - - Beginning at 10 am today the cars & other "major exhibits" were delivered "into" the Haggin Museum.... When you see the pics you will know what I mean. We (Gary Cox from Panella's and I) were the first scheduled in, but let's take the last first.... Here is the Ochoa Brothers 1960 Chevy LowRider "Egyptian Gold" .... Next to last was this Nash Metropolitan that is being raffled off by the Museum, Tickets to win it may be purchased here - http://hagginmuseum.org/exhibitions/driven/
Next in was this Paxton Blown MG belonging to Dick McClure.. Prior to that this REALLY KOOL Model A Roadster Hot Rod of the Sage family from Stockton, Ca The car was built back in the Fifties and sports one of Craney Gartz's finest "CRAGAR" OHV Heads on it's Model "B" motor. Model A body on 30's Chevy rails with an Auburn dash & cowl (?) with a real Boat windshield... @ a "Columbia" 2-speed rear! KOOL! It was nice to see it, unrestored and in the family's hands! Check out how we put the cars "IN" the museum!!!
The next one to go in the Haggin was this really cool"Marmon 4" Midget Racer that belongs to Mr & Mrs Walsh....
As previously stated, the Kingdom winning engine exhibit was transported as a short block and assembled to a complete engine at the Museum, in the parking lot... That's Gary Cox assisting me with the project, Thanx Gary!
That upper story "door" had not been opened since about 1974! Up until one day last week it had a huge scene painted on the other side. We were the first car scheduled to enter... the "guinea pig" if you will... Then we had to gently maneuver it thru the Haggin's hallways...
And into it's corner parking space it went.... The Musuem Staff was GREAT! All that went pretty smoothly! But... not everything had gone that smoothly for "us".... in trying to get a last minute appointment with Lodi, Ca area Artist/Sign Painter Tony Segale ( tonysegale.com )we did not exactly make our deadline.... But, the Haggin Museum Staff was happy to have Tony finish his craft there today! Very Kool Day!!
The "Driven to Dream" Opening was this evening, Sat - 10/5/2013.. & it was Great Fun..... Please see - http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=837189
The roadster looks cool, is that a 'pick up bed' i see hanging out of the trunk? The Ralph Panella Thames looks great also. Cool that the letterer was allowed to finish the detailing at the museum. I only wish we were out there to check out the exhibit. Best of luck and hope it's a smash.
Yes, "DualQuad55" it is! The Sage family owned a motorcycle shop in Stockton for many years and I could just see this home-built "Ute" hauling parts with it's Cragar headed "B-Model" motor!! Too kool.. Thank you, we are quite proud of the way the little Thames Panel turned out.. The Opening was Really Something!! -- ---see--- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=9275366#post9275366 Wow!
