I just picked up a 37 project truck with a 350 and 700r4 trans, the driveshaft fits, from the reaend up to the rear of the tranny, but about 6 inches of the shaft is exposed, is this a problem ?

  2. I have always done it this way......with the driveshaft at ride-height you should have 3/4 to 1 in. yoke showing.

6" exposed yoke would put the universal joint way too far back for any kind of stability. Unhook the driveshaft from the rear-end and see how far you can push it into the tranny. If it will go say 5" then subtract an inch and get a driveshaft that much longer.
