I'm feeling a bit scrambled right now.

1" stick out is usual, but the amount 'in' is another matter. That'll depend on the length of the yoke and depth of the trans. You don't want to it bottom out if you insert that extra inch. So long enough, but not too long, but not too short. What were we talking about??

Grade-8, and a little hardwood will fix it:

quick note-if you are using the common 9 inch ford rear the different size pinion yokes can vary the driveshaft measurement by an inch or so

Put your existing yoke in the transmission. Push it in until it bottoms out.

Pull it back out 3/4" if it is a short travel suspension setup. Pull it out 1" if it is a long-travel suspension setup.

Then, measure from the center of the eyelet on the yoke, to the center of the eyelet on the pinion yoke. That is your operational length.

YES! There are deep and shallow pinion yokes. This is the case with other rear axles, too!

You can vary installed length there, too.

The correct IN measurement it everything but the 3/4" or 1" that I mentioned above.

Good advice, I can live with all of the above. I used a stock Power Glide yoke when I measured for my driveshaft and there was not a lot in the transmission. The splined area was not that long. So find one of those and see what it measures up as.

(If) you mean correlate the length of a PG yoke to that of a T400 yoke, apples and oranges, but maybe I didn't understand your post.
I'm sure you know it, but if not, see my post #11.

Speedway sells a (affordable) longer yoke. If it’s too long you can cut it down. I’ve got one in my ‘40
