We are changing from a power glide transmission yoke to a turbo 350. The yoke that came with the turbo is roughly 5/8” wider for the universal joint than the original power glide yoke. We want to use the original driveshaft so if there is a yoke out there that is skinnier then the one we have what year of car does it come out of? Or a different universal joint that work in this application. The difference in holes can be seen in the photo below.

    Thanks,

There are combo u-joints. I used them for years mostly on rear ends and bought them from NAPA. A good parts guy can use your measurements. Good luck.

I did the same on a 58 Impala a few years ago. I believe the powerglide yoke slid right in the trans with no issue. I had to have a new shaft made since it was unbalancable.

Check the diameter of the yokes and the spline count before you get too much in an uproar. I haven't done any of those swaps in so long forget what fits what.

Other than that there two ways go go.
    1. get a combination joint as the guys suggested. they work great but there are two issues, first sometimes they can be a challenge to get quickly, secondly they cost about twice what a same brand top quality standard U joint does. Like the others I ran them for years though.

    2. Get a turbo 350 yoke that has the smaller U joint size that matches the one on the driveshaft. They are out there and not that hard to find.

    Precision #372 u-joint or equivalent.
