I started driving the car again this past Sunday. I had other people driving me around just so the car was getting exercise. Even sitting for a month, it fired right up but the alternator had some work to do. I was in fear that my chest incision and loss of weight and muscle would be a problem, evidently it wasn't. I can steer and stop with no issues. I took the car out last night to attend a model car club meeting with my brother riding shotgun. The car sounded (still a tad loud) but ran well. I was doing 65-70 both ways. Feels good to strap on a piece of 57 year old Detroit iron.
Yeah!!! Good for ya, Bob. I'm really down that winter's getting here pretty quick. It won't keep me from frequent trips around town, just the long ones are hard to plan when there's no chance of hail, snow, ice, etc. Jeez, just typing those words hurts.
63 here and sunny right now. I'll drive the car all winter as long as the roads are dry and not slushy. There's a cruise on Sunday mornings at a state park which draws a lot of cars, this is about 10 minutes from my house. http://nysparks.com/parks/65/details.aspx
It was 65 here yesterday so I figured it was high time to get my exhaust donut issue resolved. I had no sleeve inside the pipe and the exhaust was cooking the donuts, the p***enger side was 100% blown out. The flame would cook the #4 and #6 plug wires, the driver side manifold drops lower so those wires are always out of the path. My brother stopped by and we put the car on jackstands, dropped the pipe on that side. Sure as heck, no donut left at all. The driver's side I had replaced and it is okay for now. We made a quick trip to Pep Boys, picked up a suitable steel exhaust sleeve and we were in business. Took a ride, about 10 miles and the car sounded crisp and quiet up front. I have had it on a battery tender so it started right up. Contemplating a ride in a few... see who wants to take a ride to a local Sunday cruise at Captree State Park. https://www.facebook.com/Captree-Sunday-CAR-MEETS-562454797163424/
No takers on the ride and it was bitterly cold on the water. I stayed 20 minutes, but there was a fair amount of cars out and about.
Drove the '59 to work today. I got Darth Vader to watch over the car for me. 19 degrees and windy, but the car wanted to get out and go for a ride.
Good thing Darth Vader was there. Someone nefarious individual may have taken it. Glad to hear your getting back to normal Bob.
We have a secure lot at work, can't get in without a code or badge. I'm doing fairly well thanks. Turning a wrench here and there, helping a friend with his car too.
Changed the Cherry Bomb mufflers for Dynomax super turbos on Sunday. MUCH quieter and nicer to drive. It has a better sound to it. Had it out last night late and was leaning on it a bit, now I really hear the tires chirp on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Now I hear the transmission gear noise, but not a bad sound. I need a different fan and have to so shopping at Summit soon.
Thanks, a lot better being on the green side of the gr*** than the brown side. Not doing too bad and I don't have to worry about my heart for the next 60 years.
Took my tattoo artist for a ride last week, before the snow. She has an old Caddy and a hot Chevelle and is into cars. I start it for her in the parking lot... then she says, lets go for a ride. So we did and ran it up hard through the gears a few times. She loved it, talked to her yesterday and she said her neck still hurts.
I was out at the bar last night, trivia night and I'm the DD so I don't drink. There was a lady there, around age 50 who was there with one of the regular ladies in the group. She's on temporary ***ignment working with her for a few days. Turns out she's a total gear head. I asked her if she wanted to go for a ride in the Ford, she said only if she could drive... okay. Around the block would be fine she said. To her credit, she handled the 4-speed and manual steering, did a k-turn and never stalled it out. It was rainy too, I had the defroster and wipers going. Then it was my turn to drive and we went for about a 10-mile ride. So I showed her what the car was capable of within the limits of the road surface conditions. I dropped her off at her car, got a hug and a kiss for my efforts, she had a good time.
Out with the Ford last night, it was cold and below 50, had the heater going. Stopped for a photo-op in front of an iconic parts store, great sign they have.
Thanks, I'm not doing bad at all. I have a little surgical pain from doing too much, just the chest incision. The leg where they scavenged a vein is getting better. I helped a buddy pull an LS engine out of a Yukon last week too.
Picture that goes with my tattoo artist post above. The tattoo is not done yet, note the reaper holding the heart.
bobss396 how many roof bows for the headliner does your 59 have. I have 4 but looks like there may be one missing at the rear the 2 wires by the rear gl*** do not reach my back bow ?
I believe I have 5. I also have the 2 dangling wires by my back window. They are buried on my work bench but I'll look later today.
I have 4 and 2 wires if you find 5 take a picture of the rear one I probably pulled it and set it some where
I have to dig the bows out. They should have a dab of paint on them to correspond on where they go from the factory. Mine came from a Texas donor car (Owens Salvage) and I bet the paint is long gone from them.
The paint was long gone on mine too,the length measurements are in the shop manual with the color codes.
the front 4 I marked on the 59 when I pulled them last week I think I pulled a 5th one when I was dolling out the crease a year ago but cant remember now. I have lots of loos one from cars I have s****ed. and hope it did not get mixed up with them The bows on the 53 ford were actually stamped in to the steel
wow got my door panels from sms only took 16 moths (yep 1year and 4 moths) there still slower then malaises but you cant beat the results just like factory . now the 59 is back on the lift and its time to get it done been playing with the 53 and this 63 shop truck yep its a early hemi My 63 ford fully boxed frame crown vic front 9" rear an early hemi back by a 46rh over drive auto
