Technical Drop a 1956 Cadillac

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bridgemillroaddevil, Oct 16, 2014.

  1. Hi!

I'm building a custom 1956 Cadillac. I want to drop it 3", the rear is no problem but how should I drop the front end? I have not found any drop spindles but if there is let me know. Or can I change the front springs to get i lower?

    What is the best solution?

    Many thanks for help!

  3. Wouldn't the front end gonna be very "bouncy" if I cut the springs? And how about the wheel alignment?

When you cut coils, they tend to stiffen because you've eliminated some "spring." That's a king pin front suspension, different than a ball joint front suspension, alignment shouldn't be a problem...but give it some time, I'm sure someone more experienced with Cadillac front ends will chime in here...!!!

  5. Does anybody know if there are some springs from another car that fits and makes the 1956 Cadillac lower?

  6. Is here anyone else that have dropped their 54-56 caddy? If so, let me know how.

    Thanks for help!

Original parts group has lowered coil springs, they are around $260 from them. I've been recommended to a company called Springs and Things, they can do me a set of standard front springs for $130 shipped. I'm going to inquire if they can do lowered springs and price.

  8. Fatman Fabrication used to have drop spindles for the 54/55/56 Caddy.
You might shoot them an e-mail and ask if they have any stock.

Yup, they're listed on Page 17 of their 2015 catalog .PDF file.

  9. Thanks for all good answers!
I've bought 2" drop springs for the front from OPGI and installed them last week. The front end sits just right now :)
Now it's time for the rear end. Could you guys recommend a good quality set of lowering blocks? aluminum or steel?
