I used one of Sid’s 3” dropped axles on my 58 and if I remember right, I had that same size tire. I’ll go back and check. And, as mentioned, Sid is a great guy and sure won’t steer you wrong. I actually installed my axle at his shop since I could use his lift. I have been good friends with him for about 30 years now and live a couple miles from him. Oh, and I think I took enough pics for a tech article that I never wrote for that axle... I did the one for the 47-55.1 Chevy’s and it is about the same.
If you run across any of those pics I would love to see them…I don’t have a problem running a shorter tire…I just don’t want to run too short of a tire, reminds me of a street rod look.
Motorwrks: Save up the money and do the research needed to do exactly what you plan to do later on so that you do it only one time and get it right.
I have been reading everything I can find in the HAMB relative to what I want to do…I want my truck to sit low while keeping a straight axle. I have reached out to Sid and waiting to hear from him. Everything I have read about him says he a great dude who will help me to set my truck up right.
Here is my 58 with just a 3" dropped axle and the same size tires you mention 235/75/15 on the stock wheels. I didn't worry about narrowing the axle up any since I just kept the stock drum brakes. Anyway, maybe it can give you a reference point to about how it will sit. Before and after pics hopefully showing something to help. Before During install...I didn't take as many pics as I thought... After...
Most disc brake kits only move the wheel out 1/4" to 3/8". You might run into more of a problem with wheels that fit over the disc brakes.
