    my 2nd banger....
i bought this motor a year ago and it has just sat here.
now that i have one motor running...ive got an itch to build my own and really learn what makes these things GOW!....
so ive began my quest for some parts....i've always wanted a "winfield flathead" thats all you ever read about in the pre war time period it seems...overheads and winfields....and i was tempted to buy an aluminum head...but i really wanted cast iron...from what ive read...ed winfield seemed to think that cast iron was the way to go if you wanted to go fast...he thought aluminum was only good for boiling the water...
so i made a call to someone i knew HAD a head a few years ago...and luckily for me...he still had it....unforntunately he knew what it was worth....but i paid the price anyways figuring i wouldnt ever run across another
so heres some shots of the motor...i also picked up a rebuilt WICO mag and a zepher intake and a stock B transmission...this motor was clean enough that when rebuilt they just put new aluminum standard sized pistons in and rebabbited it...it has the counterbalanced crank it in and is a diamond block..

i also just ran across a deal on another complete running B motor so im going to nab that soon too

also does anyone know anything about these duke hallock cast iron exhaust manifolds?

If that's the Dan Price repop you're referring to I've seen a few positive comments on the Ahooga board about them--no negatives except for the fact they're rather pricier than tubular headers.

i love that sport coupe...makes me wish i wouldnt have chopped mine up

thanks for the info on the hallock exhaust...i might give one a go....this is a long drawn out motor build...so money isnt really a factor too much...just save till i can afford each part that i want...eventually it'll get done

I always liked your sport coupe before you cut the top off. I always like to think of the sport coupe as a roadster with the roof up!

The duke Hallock manifold is a nice item. Fordy6 on here has one and he likes it. I believe he had to work it abit around the mounts but thats no real problem. You would have to do the same thing with a repro stock iron manifold.

They weren't no odd ball speed item either as I have seen quite a few fitted to cars in period.

I don't believe that they are as a good or better than a tube manifold though.

those hallock repops are are cool cast iron rules!...i've seen old hot rods where they sliced two stock cast iron manifolds in half and welded the two halves with exits together for a cheap dual exhaust.i've always wanted to do that....

I came close to chopping it up a few times! Just finding the right parts (of which I'm still missing a few) was a tough task, getting it all to fit right was no walk in the park either. Still, I'm pleased with the way it turned out and it's all the better when other people say they like it too. Thanks guys!

Great looking engine there Nate - exactly the exhaust I want on my Tudor. No progress on my end, went out to start it up and my son must have left the key on, so no sweet sounds for me...

last month was a bust for me and the A.
didnt do much driving or wrenchin. did my water pump rebuild today. alot more involved then i thought. i guess i didnt take into consideration that my pump was forty years old might not come apart as easy as i thought.

my car got alot of attention from one of the HAMBers (dirtyest devil) since my car is bone stock now and all i have been doing is collecting parts. i was asked if i would be interested in a trade for a hot rod because he would like a stocker. wife thinks it is a good idea becouse the car is done. but i dont know becouse i would like to do the work myself.
    anybody got an opinion?

that's a tough call. I like mildly modified stockers, they're just unique. But hot rods are just as cool. The hot rod probably has as much, if not more appeal than the stocker, restored stockers are very easy to find. But then again, you want to modify your car exactly as you desire.
Guess it depends how radical your plans are for the car- if it's a lot, might be better to start with an already modded car.....

    Nice ride NATE!!!!!!

my guess is even if you get the car from mel, you'll still want to hot rod it the way you want..i got my car "done" and i did more work to it than a chevy truck i built from the ground up....either way you will learn a lot ,just figure out what you want as far as mill,ch***is,stance, bodywork if any...which one is closer to your ideal?

didn't see an answer to this one- you undo the bolt on the end, then have to hammer the shaft while holding the fan, or pry the fan/hub ***embly off as one. It's likely on there very tight, and there's nothing but the bolt on the end and a slip fit holding it. You may need to take the radiator away to get good access :(

i ended up getting the waterpump off the car ok. the fan was another story. i ended up putting the whole ***embly in the freezer for an hour and the fan poped off with one light hit. the kit i bought requires some grinding to fit properly and my grinder died so i havent finished yet. ill buy a new one tomorrow and finish it up.

thanks for the advice and info.

4-ever-4 Do you know any history about the Burns Intakes? I recently got a Burns single/94 intake. It sure looks like it has been thru the wars. Still have got one small (about 1 inch) crack that needs re welded. I'm still fighting with my new camera and just got a new home pc also. Fricking techno world!!!Someday, i'll be able to post pics.

    Not really.

All I know is that they don't make repro ones. I think someone had some information on them, may have been Bruce Lancaster?

Mine also had two large cracks around the mounting ears which I didn't realise were there until after I had got it home.
Because it was an original piece I put the effort in to get it repaired.

  24. & for the Chev boys, I mocked up my '25 Chev to get an idea of how things will fit. Body will be channelled 5" when I get to it.

I will start sandblasting the ch***is when this **** rains pisses off

I will have an update in 2 weeks :D
    Cheers!

  25. got a nice 2 port chevy all moded with big valves that i'll trade ya for that 3 port...nudge nudge, wink wink. :D (got a spare?)

  26. According to the the restorer boys two ports are better
I don't have a spare (I am never selling the one I have).......... but if I find two more I will swap you one for the 2-port :D

  27. the three port heads sound cooler. a friend of mine has one adapted to his T with a few other mods: the damn thing goes down the road at over 100!

(maybe i will bolt the over head on and stop messing around with this flat head stuff. :D  jk)

  28. damn!

I will go home and measure the valves (i have the head in a cupboard in the kitchen) I may have a spare set of rocker arms, but i know where i can get more if need be.

i think that most people who have seen my T run (when it is not sticking valves) will attest that it goes pretty good as is...but that is before i, well, *big **** eating grin*
