    I'm installing a 4" dropped "I" beam on a MODEL A.

What if any setup can I use from a "junk yard" to make it work? Another words, what year car can I take the spindles and drums from.........I'm looking at the cost factor. I know I can purchase all the stuff new via a speed shop at the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ price.

I'm thinking about disk brakes in front and drum rear. I have a 1940 Ford "banjo" rear end that I will need spindles and drums for as well.

Any suggestions highly appreciated. I'm new to all this.....first hotrod!
    thank you in advance,
    Mike

I'd suggest you try to meet some local people who are like minded in your area with knowledge of what makes a traditional hotrod with build experience. Do lot's of research, buy a few books, and don't buy anything until you have a solid plan.

  3. I take it you mean backing plates for the rear. Good used drums that are any good are hard to find. The next step would be the new ford drums machined to fit the old ford hubs. Front discs' on an A is just wrong. Easy to adapt 39 to 48 on the front. Follow just dugs' advice. It's golden.

Your first duty is to get a big pile of Ford automotive service, history, and hot rod books. Sit down and read them day after day, learn before you pay for your ignorance. Remember, ignorance is simply a lack of knowledge and is easily and eagerly curable, and is nothing to be ashamed of, heck I'm ignorant about Abombs as are most people, 'cept Arab terrorists.

It’s hard to disagree with the advice that has been given to you. Another thing you can do is just do searches and read. The HAMB is all about traditional hot rods and you’ll find a lot of good information here, just search and read.

  6. Get the book "How to Build Traditional Ford Hot Rods" by Mike Bishop and Vern Tardell and read every page before you start acquiring parts or do any building.

  7. Great advice. Froget the discs, that's for street rods.
