I have a 1934 Ford pick up .I'd like to know the pros and cons between using a drop front axle or reversed eye springs to lower the car. I need new springs anyway.
A reversed eye spring will give you about one inch drop and switching to a Model A front cross member will give you another inch. I used a reversed eye spring,Model A cross member and a 4" dropped axle in my old pickup but I wanted it low. HRP
I removed 2 or 3 leafs every other one ,that is what I did for my 38 truck and it actually had a softer ride if you have bump stops they may need trimming
Put in a Posie Super Slide in both of my 1939 Ford Coupes - The last install was about 2 months ago in my Dad's Coupe. I got about 2 inches of drop - the original spring was double packed with long pairs - for a 371 J-2 Olds in the 1950's. - looks much nicer - has original axle and unsplit wishbones.
On my '34 pickup, I reverse eyed the spring and removed 3 leaves. I had 4 out, but the spring center bolt was bottoming out against the axle, so I put one back in. The truck rides softer than stock, and I like the ride height. I'm running 6.00X16's on the front. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Another question would be your brake setup. If you still running the stock mechanical brakes a dropped axle will affect this as the angle for the brake actuator will move. A reverse eye and lower spring is a good choice here. Cliff Ramsdell
Good point. I should have mentioned that I run mechanical brakes and want to stay that way, which limits my lowering ability. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
All good questions and answers, I find this post to be what this site is about without hearing any sarcasm or uninformed comments. It made my day, especially Cliff Ramsdell. Good pickup there. My comment would have mirrored HRP's Pat
Another one with a dropped axle, reversed spring eyes and a flattened crossmember plus channeled. Down in front.
