IMO they both look the same, get whatever fits the budget. I can't see why you would pay $500-$700 for something you can get for $200 though.

If you are totally cheap and good with your hands like I am you will do an ton of research, build a jig and do it yourself. The true traditional way

Welderboy, unless you have a pristine axle, you would be better off with one of Joe's cores for $50. He only uses excellent ones and some of the cost is offset by one way shipping. Also, you can then sell your original axle so you would definitely end up with the best dropped axle at the best price.

Dropped originals are ugly. I like Superbell. Different people like different things. That's why we keep having this conversation. New people all the time. Don't matter what the older discussions were. Countless Superbells and other aftermarket on the road for years. Don't give a **** that you can twist an original into a wrought iron porch rail.

Dropped originals are great if the right shop drops them and doesn't try to stretch them too far.
I've got an original undropped axle in the shed that was going to get sent off before I picked up a SoCal axle off Ebay for less than having mine dropped including shipping. The car is going to be full fendered so you won't see much of it anyhow as you would on a fenderless car. The stock one will get sent off someday after I start another project.

Dropped originals are ugly, wow, really? Yes some of them are NOT done well, but a well done one is a thing of beauty. The aftermarket axles don't look the same as what they are pretending to be/modeled after. What if a maker of repro A or Deuce coupe bodies made them with omitted body lines, or added extras, or made the quarters or doors longer or shorter? A reproduction should look EXACTLY like the item it's copying.

Is there anything wrong with aftermarkets, no, not if the fact they look like an aftermarket doesn't bother you, they just aren't for me. This being a traditional site, a site that celebrates and pays homage to a bygone era, cars built as if they were done back when, and back when they dropped originals. In fact I kind of like them if they have abit of character, it shows that they were done by hand, maybe done in an old dirt floored shop by a couple two or three guys that were having a great time building a hotrod with what was at hand to the best of their ability.

Why have this conversation again, no problem having it again as you say there are new members here daily, just bring up one of the larger threads, and add some new perspective to it, if that's possible.
