No photos or video, but for my coupe I set the frame up on jack stands with the front suspension and the rear axle installed also, as long as I was bending the arms I figured why not set the Ackerman at the same time too. I had a friend hold a length of pipe on the stub axle to hold it steady while I bent the arms to suit, first down and away, then back toward the C/L of the car. Lastly I adjusted for the Ackerman, some might say why bother but I was already heating and bending so what was a bit more work at that point? None of my bends were angular, (which I have seen ) I did mine like @Pocket Nick did for his car giving a factory like look. It goes without saying, but heat cherry red and let slow cool.

  3. Pair of round backs ('35-'36 axle and bones).

Here's the arms I bent on my '40. You can see the two spots where they were heated. There's a Tardel book that explains it in detail, but it's pretty self explanatory as to what has to happen, and every axle is a little different. thumbnail_20180509_170237.jpg thumbnail_20180509_170245.jpg

  5. Twist out, bend down, bend up, and level eye. Check that tie rod swings clear and backing plate fits. Aftermarket axles have more room and and need lest initial twist.

We don’t know that until he pulls a string through.

anyone done a 48'' so-cal axle with oem spindles?
    thanks
are the undersides of a 35/36 bone in the same place as a 37-40

  9. Think you are just looking at some digital photo distortion.

The tie rod eyes are the same distance from a backing plate as before bending.

    Not our first time.

  10. The tube on '35-'36 wishbones is located higher on the yoke.

Which SoCal axle are you asking about?
    edit
Looked up a picture of a that 48" axle; looks so reshaped that it should be easy to bend stock arms to fit.

    axle hasn't yet arrived

    https://outlawspeed.com.au/shop/media/catalog/product/S/O/SO001-70507_-_2_full.jpg

    but it is that one
so I can use an unsplit 36 wishbone

I am reckonoing, because its only 1/2'' narrower than stock
can use the stock tie rod with 1/2 removed
and swipe 1/4'' from the stock drag link.

I think I may make a jig of some description
maybe a bit of 8'' heaby wall L section
drill the 4 spindle back plate holes
and the landing holes for the tie rod on the bottom of the L
    get them the same
literally pull the steering arm down

    hmm

what might be great is they dont have to come so far as its a 36 bone
    Thanks
