Dropped twin I beams

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tiny, Sep 1, 2009.

  1. I'm looking into picking up a 65 F100 here locally. The truck only has 30k OG miles so I would rather not cut it up and put a clip in it. Anyone have pics of trucks with dropped I beams or feed back about the ones you have used? Input into who you think makes the best axles would be great.
    Thanks

I have used the ones from DJM Suspension called Dream Beams and had good luck. I also used ones from Ch***is Tech or AIM or whatever else they call themselves and they did not fit and gave us nothing but grief over returning them for something that would fit. Will never buy anything from them again personally.

  3. Thanks Don
Thats the kinda feedback I need. How much drop do they give you and hows the ride and handling compared to stock? ANy pics?

    I think they were 3" http://www.djmsuspension.com/Instruction PDF 0908/Beams/Beams.pdf
Ride is not altered from stock as you don't change the spring or shock!

I too have used the dream beams & love them. Biggest problem is the '65-66 uses a bracket to hold the beam from dropping too far & you can't use them on the dream beams, you need to use shorter shocks. I will post some pics of my '65 when I get to my PC

check out this thread... I started it to get Ideas... needless to say there are tons of ideas here.

Im 50/50 on the dream beams... on one hand I want the nice toys a clip would bring.. on the other... I like to keep it simple and original.

in the end.. the beams are cheaper... but for a buck or two more you can have a nice clip.

"65 beams are kind of orphans, they're different from '66-up ones. Be sure you get the right ones.

  10. Good to know that Pope thanks. Lots of good ideas in that link. I really like the crown vic swap. Kinda reminds me of the simplicity of the Volare install I did on my 50, but modern parts 03-07 **** thats parts from this century. I still hate to cut a low milage truck though we'll see when I get it

  11. I've used the ones from AIM a couple times now. Never had a problem with them, soon going to be ordering a set for my 94 F-350.
I've heard many horror stories about the dream beams bending and where I live we have ROUGH roads so I stayed away from them.

Here is a pic of my Dad and his OT 79 ford. It has 3" AIM beams

My old shop truck (now kwiksilver's) has 3" DJM Dream Beams and 1.5 coils cut off. Rode and drove great, no problems. Smaller tires would have got it way on down.

  14. I like that truck lowered but still able to use as a truck, which is what I want. I'm sitting down what do the dream beams cost?

depends on where you buy them... anywhere from 450 to 700. I think someone sells them on egay for 478. Comes with tie rod relocators.

What exactly is the difference? I put stock beams from a '78 f150 on my '65 with no problems.
