I own one TCI model A frame whit front disk brake (see picture), I looking for complete drum brake kit whit spindle for replace my disk, can you help me ?
Hard to tell from the picture, but those look like 37-48 Ford type spindles. If so, and if they are unmodified, you can either put 40-48 Ford brakes on there, or do a little modifying and use mid 50's F100 brakes. If you want new brakes, Speedway sells a set, thier part number 910-65410, and you would also need 910-65450(2) and 910-65400 (2). Bob Wilson of Wilson Welding also sells Lincoln Zepher front brake setups that will go on those spindles. Whatever route you go will not be super cheap (unless you score some 40-48 brakes cheaper and rebuild them) but it will probably be worth it in looks alone. I don't think you will need spindes, just pull off the disc assemblies and build up from there. Don
There are 3 of me. No, ever since I retired I have this stupid sleep pattern that I hate. I sleep in 3 hour shifts and wake up wide awake. I gotta go back to work. Don
Is that what they do when you install a disc brake setup on early Ford spindles ? I have never done one but I guess that makes sense. Don
the rotor is a gm unit - the outer bearings are the same as the ford the inner bearing has the same od but the wrong taper pitch, so you need to swap in the outer ford cone with the bearing, this sits on a top hat style spacer, shrunk onto the spindle, as the rotor has a lesser bearing spread - the distance betwix the inner and outer bearing, than the drum. If you have never done it before, I would wager fitting a drum to a modified spindle with the shrunk on spacer, that would need to be pulled off, might cause some head scratching p.s. Is this simply for aestetics, or anything to do with the loomin EU doings, or are the swiss fk'd with regards build specs
not for aesthetics, but because the swiss laws. Personally I prefer disk, and since I am not mechanic i need drums+spindels assembly, I own 2 drums+spindles assembly from a 47 Mercury (see pic) good for my front end but these are not good for the Ford wheels 5x4½. Thanks to all for the help and thank you google traslator too
Those brakes you have are really in good condition. What about having a machine shop redrill the bolt pattern to the one you need ? That would be the cheapest option. Interesting that your Government wants drums over discs ? What is their logic ? Don
Not logical from the point of view of safety I know, problem is I can`t change "original" drum brakes because I can`t modify one car (ever for the swiss law) except with an official statement of Ford Motor Company who stating that make and model of disk brake is good for a 31 Model A, build a rod here is not easy.
