New to flatheads and dual carbs really. I am setting up the dual carbs on a project I bought. I have seen the linkage on dual 97s with the linkage on the throttle shafts, driver left, and on the right side. Is there an real advantage to either or is it just preference?
I connect from pedal to carb on the right, and link the two carbs together on the left. Mine just seemed to fit nicely like that.
I agree. The old return springs just don’t seem to work perfectly on the right side. It’s better to hook them up on the left with a separate return spring to help the rebound.
I used a pair of Stromberg's new arms and their springs that wrap around the base and hook on the arms. Very nice and I will use more on subsequent projects.
The only advantage of one over the other has to do with logistics. My preference is that the linkage that ties the carbs together is the off side of the linkage that connects the gas peddle. So pas side gas peddle driver side linkage or vice versa.
Sometimes there are other factors to consider. I have 3 but the theory is the same, I ran the throttle and tied the carbs together on the left side because my one piece hood opens to the right making it difficult to adjust the progressive linkage. Choke on the right to center carb.
Thanks GC but just an FYI, don't ever google "car ****" I think that expression is just a HAMB thing.
