I picked up this dual point distributor along with some other parts in some boxes of VW parts I bought at an estate sale. The lady said she didn't know what it was off of but her husband worked on all kinds of cars in his shop. I need help figuring out what this is off of. I don't see any significant markings and I haven't taken it apart. It turns freely and seems to be functional. The underside has Ford 194? written in marker...not sure if this is accurate. Can anyone help ID this or lead me to somewhere I can look for info to help figure out what make it is? Thanks in advance.
It fits a 43-48 Ford flathead, and with a switch to a different cap clip, it will fit 42's as well. It doesn't fit 41's.
Here u go try here http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/FH_images/FH_engine-pics/Flathead_Distributor_1942to44.JPG Tig
maybe that last one is a 7 then looks like it's also marked with a V, closer look in person might just say 8 after it
The early Ford V8 front-mounted distributors break up into three basic groups: 32-36 "diving helmet" with 3-screw coil. 37-41 "diving helmet" with 2-screw coil. 42-48 flat distributor with remote mounted coil up on head. As with all Ford things there are exceptions and oddities, the 32 only tall coil distributor, the late 36 slanted pattern 2-screw coil distributor, the 42 flat "crab cap" distributor. Ford also offered an adapter plate to mount the later 2-bolt distributors to the earlier 3-bolt front covers. A special plug spacer required to use this plate is also available. Then of course there is the new distributor like modern ones which was introduced in the new 8BA engines in the Commercial line in 1948.
