I typically just use what the car came with. My Chrysler has points, the Fargo has the factory Chrysler electronic ignition because that was the distributor that was in the engine that went in it.

I guess I'm cheap you can spend $200+ on a MSD or $30 on a 70s Chrysler module and do the same thing on most applications. Also fixs the I can't find a good condenser issue[IMG]

Dual points are to increase dwell time....They are not needed when using points to trigger an electronic module or MSD type control box...
I used the stock but recurved points distributer on my modified 302 GMC street engine with dual points, then single points with a Mallory 6A multi spark CDI and finally a small cap HEI .All the systems did the job but the HEI could fire a larger plug gap allowing a leaner part throttle fuel mixture ...

I had problems with the duel point Mallory on my 327. Petronix really woke it up.

its the Type of Bearing's that the Distributer has, Most use Babbit
Bearings, This gives you a little more Rev. time with the Dizzy
it comes with a 12 degree in the Dizzy.

    Just my 3.5 cents

I've run a large cap HEI bought second hand and had the ONLY misfortune of a module going bad on a dark and rural country road (cue rainstorm or snow or wind or something) in over 120 k miles of driving. Had I kept a module with me (a ten minute job even if I stopped to light one up) the volunteer fireman going in for his overnight shift wouldn't have been troubled by giving me a ride to the station's telephone.

As above I attribute (Red highlight) the HEI and larger plug gap with giving me mid 17-18 mpg in a 49 half ton, '56 235, now with 120 k carefully driven miles.
