For reasons yet to be explained, I have installed a Weiand Dual Quad Intake in my 331 Hemi.powered 32 3 Window. I'm running Edelbrock carbs, (it was formerly running a Holley). It has an existing Lokar linkage, but I end up with very little firewall to carb clearance, which results in geometry problems. Can I run these carbs non progessive and linking to the front Carb? Or, better, if anyone has had a similar dilemma, any suggestions, especially with pictures, would be very welcomed
I can tell you this, my Buick 401 Nailhead ran way better with a one-to-one linkage on the dual quads verses progressive.
Edelbrock carbs, especially 600s: Straight linkage works great, as primaries are so small. Good throttle response, easy adjustment. I have a Weiand 2X4 intake on my 354 Chrysler Hemi, two Edelbrock 600s. Nice. Linking the rod to the front carb is O.K., advise you use 1/4" rod, spherical rod ends. Any slop in linkage (between both carbs) will kill any 'fine tuning' you have done. Final tuning should be done with a screw fixture that tenses linkage from the throttle pedal: just take up slack by increasing RPM to about 200 above idle; now set carbs the same at linkage with a uni-syn, so both air horns are vacuum checking the same. Release tension, adjust idles and air corrections. Final uni-syn check at idle. Good linkage is as important as tight bushings at throttle ****erflies! A final note: Install return spring in same plane linkage is pulling from. (Avoid applying spring tension that will result in having a 'sawing' effect on throttle bushings!)
