Decided to rebuild my slant pan. I have the thing almost completely dis***embled and found this. It's the annular piston on front drum. The front edge seems to have been rubbing on the studs and has flattened the lip. Anyone know what this part does and why this happened? Can I possibly clean up the burrs or do I need to replace it? The annular piston applies pressure to the clutch discs to lock up the clutch in the front unit. Were the correct number of clutch plates installed? Were all the snap rings in place on this unit? I'd also be checking end play on the main shaft and the intermediate shaft. It's been over ten years since I was inside an early Hydro, so I'm just going on memory here. You might try "blownolds" for some other ideas...

Looks like a worn thrust washer or snap ring might have gone bad.

I have some parts from a 52 Lincoln dual range hydramatic and I would think the parts might be same as what you have. PM me if interested in the part. Give you a good price.
