I am running a model a motor with automatic timing , fuel pump (2 1/2 to 3 pounds pressure ) duel 97 Stromberg carbs with Progressive linkage. Second carburetor comes in 3/4 of the way advanced The jets and Excelerator pump are standard. It will start an idle runs rich when you go to accelerated it dies but if you increase acceleration very slowly, it will continue to run and respond. I am running a Burns dual intake with Reds manifold . The speedster run great with the standard model a updraft carb . But you know how it is we can’t leave it alone. It looks so cool, with duel carbs . I see other people run 79 on model a ‘s just fine . I have checked timing, changed jets , re-change jets . All but pulled my hair out . There’s got to be something I missing or not doing Any suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thanks Miff

    Swords or pistols?

To the death, or just to the pain?

    RighTo: Duals in our lingo
Most duals are set to run together.
Others will know best jet size.
    Have fun

  4. That style intake isn't made for progressive linkage. Run your carbs direct, your engine will thank you.

    Engarde!

Running multiples requires not just the correct jets, but also the correct power valves.

Unless all of these things are changed to match the demands of this particular engine, otherwise each carburetor has the potential of delivering the fuel that is required for the engine that they were originally intended for.

Since a single 97 was used on a Ford V8 from about 1935 to about 1938, each in their original configuration can deliver the fuel necessary for 221 cubic inches of displacement. Naturally two can reasonably handle 442.

The engine that you are running is 200 cubic inches.

Run them with a straight linkage, and throttle stop them at half throttle.

What engine are you running? Banger?
    What exactly is automatic timing?
I agree odds are your progressive linkage is causing issues.

I am running a standard rebuilt four cylinder model a motor 1931
. Nu-Rex is the automatic spark advance system . On the model a you used to have to set the spark (retard or advance ) by hand. I will set up the straight linkage. See if that helps . Thanks for everyone’s input . Will let you know the out come .
