Projects Dumb question but what is this?

I was in a buddies junk yark the other day when I saw the ends of these shafts sticking out from under a pile of old hood and covered in 4 years of dead grass and weeds. I know it was suspension stuff so I bought it. Then once I got it out and brought it home I started to wonder... what did I buy? Could use some help, Thanks!
