Ok I'm having heating issues with my 54 crestline strait 6 Does the engine run clock wise? it looks like im not getting any movement in the radiator, I've flushed the engine and radiator and installed a new 180 degs thermostat, but it still seems to run hot, I haven't checked exact temp, but after running for about 10 to 15 mins the temp gauge is almost pegged (original gauge) and haven't checked the timing yet. I was thinking water pump due to the fact I dont see the coolent moving, I was checking for a water pump and seen one for this engine counter clockwise rotation, thats why I asked about the engine rotation Thanks Kevin
clockwise. i think way back when they used some of these engines in boats. if it had 2 in it one has to be reversed so it dont pull bad . this holds true for any twin marine inboard set up. the impeller that moves the water in the pump will rot off and cause no flow, id start by just taking it off and looking at it before i bought one .
I had a Dodge dart with a 225 that had an overheating problem . Replaced the water pump , radiator and flushed the block out real good and still overheated . After replacing everything in the cooling system . I pulled the new water pump off and there was no impeller on it ! It had come loose and fell off in the block behind the water pump . I have seen some turn fine at an idle but not under a load . The impeller just sometimes does that but only had 2 since the late 1960's do that to me . I have also seen them rusted too . Personally I would check the gauge and the sending unit first , then the water pump . It can also be your radiator too with the tubes being blocked . You can take the car to a radiator shop to have a flow test done . Then you will know if it's the radiator . If the radiator is old then you might have to get the radiator "rodded" out . Jim
