Hey, I think we just named your car! :D

That thing is bad-ass. It is so TINGLER! It looks like a MONSTER drives it! Please, Please put the shifter THROUGH THE ROOF!

And use that tractor shell for something else. It sucks. The Willys grill RULES! Night and day, good vs. EVIL, lame vs. TITTIES!

Hey Tingler, I widened the grille 4 inches, added a headlight and checked yer oil.

And for some reason I thought about you when I saw this belt buckle on Ebay. (That is NOT a joke about your Mother!)

    I"m sure I didn't get the proportions right… but here's another idea!

In all seriousness I'm partial toward the tractor grill…

Just go for it and keep tweekin it til your happy… just like art… yur gut will tell you when it's right… "Trust the Force Luke!"…

    OK, I'll butt-out now…

    Have fun with it!

Tingler, if you go for the Jeep grill, you might consider narrowing it a bit. I like either for different reasons. It was good to find this thread and catch up with the build. Keep at it! :D

  7. I like it. If it were mine I'd think about the earlier peaked jeep grill. I have one for a wall hanging. Always thought they looked pretty tough.

  8. Now I'd look for a '50's or so junk refrigerator and make a grille shell out of the door from it. Should be wide enough to match the cowl, just need one that's rounded but with a fairly flat top to look right. Who knows, maybe it will even come with a cool badge on it too.

Make the insert out of something like a couple of '61 Rambler American grille inserts, or '59 Ford grilles, or whatever is cheap and easy to scrape up. Even the bars out of the Jeep grille would work.

Then again, I also thought you could make a neat little roadster body out of a refrigerator shell. Come to think of it, I do have an A that I need some tin to cap the back off... wtf can I find two identical junk fridges?

"Mommy what kind of truck is that?" .... "It's a Philco, honey, I didn't know they made trucks. " .....

Tractor grille is best, but Jeep grille is OK.

only thing i thought was different between rat rod and trad rod was trad rods had more rust..to me its just a fuckin hot rod! i never got the whole traditional thing anyways..dont make since to take a car and downbuild it to be different (like everyone else) Everyone i talk to that was from that era of hot rodding says they dont remember that much rust..

Tingler that truck is lookin cool! plain cool...i would run disc brakes too...nothing wrong with being safe..paint it a pastel color to piss everyone off ...lol

The jeep grille looks killer. If there was a way to shorten and make it narrower it would be perfect. IMO

I'd go Jeep grille narrowed by about 2 slots. That would be cool! I like the name rat rod, so welcome to the club!

Bringing back this old post due to the other Jeep-rod post.

Any progress updates, Tingler? I like the Willys truck/wagon grilles myself - they still have a definite jeep flavor to them, but are peaked after about '50 or so...

    Here's the early grille:

Here's a wagon with the later grille:

I think its kinda funny how last week a newbie called his car a ratrod and caught all sorts of hell to where he probably won't return, but you get a seasoned member to post his truck listed as a rat rod and thats ok.Maybe i'm missing something here but i think ass kissing is wrong.I personally could care less what you call your vehicle, were all in the same boat building vehicles the way we choose.Just don't understand the bashing just because you call your vehicle a certain name.
Tingler, sorry to impose on your thread,I just think its messed up,all of us were newbies at one time, and i'm sure most of didn't read the list of words to not call your ride

  18. It sorta looks like a hot rod drawn by Mort Walker. (Beetle Bailey)

Or the Manson Family mail jeep.

    Run the jeep shell.

It's different and looks really good on that thing.

Tingler - I apologize for bringing this back up. I just re-read it after that other Jeep-rod post & thought I'd throw in my $.02 on the grille...

  23. You misread me. I like this one. I'm going to start leaving you alone, man.

i think if you run only one headlight, you should run it on the right side, just to compliment the one side mirror. you know, proportions and making things even are everything...
