Most of this **** rolls off my back, heck even sometimes I'll play along with em if I'm in my circle of friends just to make em look like an idiot without em figuring out they are an idiot....but my pet peeve is when idiots tell me I have nice hydraulics (its air damn it you can see the bags right friggen there)

I had one bloke trying to impress his lady friend with his vast knoledge of hydraulic suspensions going on and on how they work etc pointing to my truck as a reference....I mentioned casually that it was air, He fired back, "I think I know hydro's when I see em...I've built hydraulic systems" when I replied, Damn, thanks for telling me I have hydros'.... funny when I welded em in I thought the compressors, tanks and bags looked a little funny, but what the hell do I know...I just built the truck....

thats the one and only thing that really ticks me off

A guy can sit by his $80,000 pro built rod all weekend and virtually no one will approach him with questions or compliments. The other guys with expensive cars are 'competing' in a sense with him. Maybe someone with the same make/model will ask a question. A guy with a car that looks home built or unfinished will seem much more approachable. Some who approach will be knowlegeble and stimulating to talk to, some will be clueless and a few will be obnoxious or rude. Isn't that the way it is in most walks of life? If a group af trad rods or (gasp) rat rods are parked away from the mainstream and the mainstream guys come over to look, maybe they're just a bit envious of folks that seem to be having more fun while spending less money. Just maybe they give you the needle just to salve their egos. I'm 65, had good jobs and saved my pennies. I could have a high dollar car. Instead I have several home built (by me) rods, some of which could be cl***ified as safe, well-built rat rods. People that actually build cars and kids are quick to come up and look at my and my son's rods, ask questions or make comlimentary remarks. They are the only spectators I care about. If someone, even someone on the HAMB cl***ifies me as a REAL idiot and an ***hole "rat rodder", I don't mind. He's just giving himself a very bad name.

Tell me what car showst you guys go to so I don't show up. I don't want to get my *** kicked being friendly, having a conversation with you , or asking a question about your ride. I don't think I'm tough enough or maybe even rude enough to be in this hobby. Remember folk, hobby. Supposed to be fun. You have the right to be an idiot and not get beat up at a show.

I feel pretty fortunate here in Southern Ca. Eveybody seems to stick w/ there own kind, and knows That you're better off keeping negative and unsuportive comments to yourself.....You want to see Million dollar rides, they have there "events". If you want to see hot rods, jalapy's,sleds ect. built by the driver/owner, key word being driver. We have our gatherings. Bar-b-que, beer, and some good bands and friends..Alway's a good low stress time..

It has nothing to do with wanting to be an "***hole rat rodder" or "******** bad ***" so that kind of stupid **** was unnecessary. What it has to do with is, I'm always more than friendly with people at shows or cruises as I'm sure everyone else on here is. I'll answer any questions they want, they're more than welcome to check out my car, and with my permission, lean on it, sit in it...who cares.....as long as they ask, as are most people here. I could care less. I love to talk **** about cars anytime, anywhere with anyone....again, as are most of us on here, that's the point of this forum.

The problem I guess comes when these people ask their questions, you give them answers, they ask more questions, only the questions get dumber and dumber, but you keep doing your best to answer ignorant questions, and this keeps going on and on. I'll answer all the questions you want about my cars, but when these people start to belittle me as if they were better than I am because they maxed out a credit card on a paint job or a ton of useless billet, this is when I develop an at***ude problem.

This isn't just limited to car shows. I'm sure anyone on here, if they feel like they're being looked down upon for whatever reason, take offense to that. Its just human nature. It has nothing to do with wanting to be a bad***. Its a respect level that everyone deserves. A Boyd car isn't my kind of ride, but I respect your choice to drive/trailer one to a show, so I guess what we're saying is don't be a condesending ***** when it comes out our kind of rides.

Nowhere, and I mean NOWHERE in this thread or post did I state that I wanted to "pound this guy" or display any type of rude "badd***" repsonse towards him...I had a simple three sentance conversation with him that I did not understand and left. I subsequently posted it here for a response from other "car people".

Everone here has felt free to judge me other wise as a "one of those rat rodders" or a "bad*** wannabe" that should just stay home or as Doctor J says..."If ya can't take a joke, stay off the ****in' BEACH! and don't go to car shows where your at***ude and your head up your *** ***** brain is going to **** with the reality of someone just trying to make conversation every time. He got it, but you subverted it with your ****y-*** tude. Just like you aren't going to get this either. Idiotic..."

What the hell is that all about? I'm just posting a situation that occured at a show and asking for reposnses and you feel the need to attack me and tell me to stay away from "your" events? It sounds like your the one with the **** at***ude.

53sled - my point was the guy started out complimenting your car. He was ignorant and called your car by another name...so you and your buddies reply with some smart *** remarks. Then it leads to a near throwdown? Likes it's been said before in thise post, stop taking yourself so seriously. Since your such a better person than him, why not just blow him off with a "thanks" and go on with your day.

    And Hooves...

"I made the mistake of attenting a local "car show" yesterday morning. I knew it was a mistake when I pulled into the lot...vintage BMW's, import tuners, Ferrari's, MG's, Austin Healy's, old volkswagons, attorney's playing dress up as "bikers" on multi thousand dollar "choppers", gold chain street rods...and me. "

So how did you think you would be treated at the show? What, exactly, would you do if all your buddies, the local traditional clubs, some chopper guys, etc. had a show, and some clueless guy in a way over billet laden coupe rolls in. He's going to catch a LOT of **** for it! Don't put yourself in the situation and it wont happen.

  12. you're all missing the point. If these guys bug you at the show, do what any stand up guy would do. Some here have said, "Kick his door in," others say "Get in their face", or the real tough ones will stand and argue toe to toe. Back off on this ****, and just KILL THE MOTHER****ER, right then and there. Your buddies will support you, and according to some other posts here, so will the crowd. By killing them it takes care of the problem for good. This logic makes as much sense as this thread.

I'm not looking for a fight! I just get tired of being looked down uppon, cause my car isn't fancy. I love my Merc. I get many compliments on it,and it doesn't have any interior yet. My Bad*** days are over, but it's just under the surface! I don't like getting ****ed with. I look at other guys cars, ask questions, take pictures, talk to new people. I do my best to hold my temper. Sometimes you just can't help it. Hell,i've probably asked some dumb questions myself in the past. Ironic.

I attend a "show", more of a gathering every Tuesday night...all cars and all types. Traditional rods and customs, cl***ics, vintage, restos, billet, street rod, hell even a mini truck now and then. My "buddies" treat them with the same respect that we would like to have ourselves. Everyone is welcome and everyone is appreciated...no at***ude, no fights, no throwdowns and no put downs. ****, I wish I could say the same for some of the "car guys" on this thread.

ive been caught with guys like this before as well ,dont ever lend any parts to a cheque book rodder as ive been screwed by these guys more than once thell usually milk you of any usefull info then dismiss it as **** and leave only to pay some one to do as youve said ,using your "borrowed parts" to mock up "their" creation and when time comes to get payment for your part its usually gone and a statement like "it was too ruff to use "or some **** like that ,the only way to fix these guys up is to keep building rods and sell em to them!!!!at a big profit.AND REMEMBER "IF YOU DIDNT BUILD IT .IT WAS NEVER REALLY YOURS!!!!!"

  19. Car shows have all ways been lame I cant understand why the hell you would sit there for 8 hours to bing home a F###ing trophy They have to so insecure or conceded .
