We used to get the "Thats Cute" and "Is that a Healey" for our 1951 Austin A40. When you tell them it is just an Austin, they argue with you that all austins are austin healeys.

Years ago my daughter put some of those fake bullet holes on my 34 sedan. Several weeks later I saw two different women trying to put their fingers in the holes. I thought my wife was going to croak from laughing.

Several weeks after that, we overheard another woman say to her husband (boyfriend?)..... why would someone want to shoot up a really nice car like that?"' Makes you really wonder about people.:D

    The Expoit's and know-it-all's don't talk to me. And I am pleased.

  6. It wasn't about my ride, but... I brought the "expert" with me... I was at a buddys hotrod shop. this guy builds some nice stuff. one of his "builders", a guy in his 40's asks if he could ride with me to a show I wes going to.. no problem.. the ride up there was quiet.. we get there and dude goes to walk the show. I had some stuff to do first..
About an hour later he returns and says that there are some cool cars there.. (custom / trad rod type show. this guy in into muscle cars) I thought cool.. a little something different for the guy .. and he was enjoying it.. next thing mr. muscle car says is.. "I understand the ratrod stuff but, you need to see what some guy did to a damn GTO.. It made me sick"..
So a little later i go with him to see the "ratrod GTO"..

Ms. Gambinos green pontiac full size.. ..

    I never said anything...............................

  8. While at my deceased grandmothers house last week I was looking at my grandfathers abandoned resoration projects, 2 very clean complete 68 Cougar XR7's. Hes been dead 20 years, she wouldn't part with them, now my dad says I need to deal with them. Dads buddy comes around the corner into the shop and says " You know you could get a junk man to come scrap them for you". There OT here but were my grandfathers pride and I'm guessing worth a little more than scrap. I swear some people. Worst part is I've know the guy my whole life and he knows my family are car nuts and pack rats WTF was he thinking? I just laughed and said "yeah I bet I could"

What ignorance!! the guy wouldn't be my mate if he was as clueless as that. Fair enough if he is not into cars but through association he should have learned a little, at least some respect.

My roadster has a 302 in it and ive had 2 people come up to me at the cruise nights so far and ask me if thats a real ford engine in it because everbody puts chevys in them, its ford blue with valve covers that say ford on them but you think the frt mounted distributor would be the giveaway

  17. I think you'll hear that a lot more than you think. I think more people will refer to a "T bucket" as the style of car, not the make.

EXACTLY!!! I dont care if its a plymouth duster or a godamnm gremlin with a nailhead , Some guy spent some nights in the garage to build it how he wanted it , and as long as they are on the road , thats one less toyota corolla ive got to look at on the highway . They are car guys , just like us , Just different cars.

Remember......the guy who's asking the "dumb" question might have just gotten home from Iraq or maybe he's spent the past 30 years working as a Paramedic saving lives at all hours of the night and isn't really knowledgable about hot rods, but he's referring his question to you by identifying YOU as an "expert" who will be able to answer it.
    As always, respect begets respect....

  23. My great-grandfather Turner (born 1859, died 1940) was 6'8" and wore a size 16 shoe. I can only imagine how uncomfortable he was in the cars of his day. I only made it to 6'5" and size 14 shoe.

Some of the things that crack me up are the way people advertise their cars for sale. I've seen several early model mustangs advertised with the original "V6." I've seen a Ford Falcon "Nomad" for sale, because obviously every 2 door wagon is a Nomad. I'm sure I'm going to catch a lot of nice Nomad comments once I get my Plymouth Suburban on the road.

Many, many people asked me, "Who owns the black Ford?"
It ain't black, it ain't a Ford and its mine.

Dumb people make statements. Smart people ask questions.
Questions are rare. Statements, sadly, are not.

reminds me of growing up in the 80's. learning to pull engines at 13 with my older friends. They nicknamed me "20 questions" asking how what and why? I feel smarter. lol:)

I've had guys say "nice Nova". I can understand that, it does look like a Nova, except for the grill, taillights, and "invader" emblems on the side.
I do not mind dumb, funny questions or advice. What I don't like are so called "experts" telling me about my car or how I should build it...

    Or,
    You should have.
