Funny! I was at the Nostalgia Drags last weekend and a VW Beetle and an old Nash Rambler wagon were at the tree. The guy next to me commented on the Beetle racing a Karmann Ghia!

I had my cousin ask if my yellow '47 coupe used to be a taxi. Then she asked if it had a rumble seat :-/

She's from the non-car side of the family.

Worse was the time a guy was telling me at a local car show we had at my job about how much it looked like a beetle and how they were designed by the same guy. I still cringe...

I had a 1959 Caddy for a few years. Visited the local pool hall/bar. Next thing I hear is a some guy talking about this killer 57' Chevy in the parking lot. They start asking who's 57' is parked out front. The bar tender ask me and all I could say was " No, I have the 1959 Cadilac Coupe DeVille".

I have listen to a lot of people say that is the car they made the Batmobile from.

Back when I had my 1941 Ford Tudor sedan. I was at a show and some asshat came up with his wife/girilfriend and was teller her that it was a Volvo and that this one was only sold in America and that why its bigger then the imported ones.

  18. Stopped by a local bar last night. In a yard across the street from the place is a '73 Cutlass in pretty good shape. Some guy walks in and says, "like to have that Olds across the street. I'd give the guy $500 for it. Somebody's probably already stuck a 350 in it. If it still had the 442 it would be worth a lot more."

I guess it's kinda like when people ask me if my Rambler really has a 770 in it.

I've had around a hundred people tell me Chevy never made a 265 V8. Even if they did, it never came in station wagon. Then they'd proceed to look in my car and usually say "Oh, this is one of those special race editions with the 4-speed in it" Uggh

The best was when I was riding my '68 Harley rigid and stopped at a gas station to fill up. This older guy in his late 80's walks over and says to me "I'm glad to see young men riding American bikes. If all the guys I served with had made it back from the Pacific they'd be ashamed of all your generation riding around on that Jap Bullshit." I had no idea what to say but "Thanks"

When I moved back to Ohio I learned you had to take your vehicles to a dealer to have the serial number "certified". The Ford dealer really didn't want to do the hot rod so it was tense. When I got to the big old Ford custom farm truck (hot 390) I had to wait quite a while since I was then associated with hot rods.
Anyway, the new Thunderbird was about to come out and I thought it would be neat to maybe own a future classic. The son's owner loudley told me to "forget it because I couldn't afford it anyway". I could not believe it since I'm 60, prosperous-looking and well spoken.
So I bought a new Corvette instead. It's classic and reminds me of the '56 Vette I had in the '60's. Stupid is as stupid does.

In the mid 90s I built a Minotti 37 3w glass coupe. While the car was apart a know it all walked in my shop & commented it was a shame I made a hot rod out of that nice old car!

You, know, I love the stying of the current Corvette and it is every bit the classic of the '55 and '56. I'm a car guy and just like it for style and I'm 60 so I earned it.
I will add, however, that corvette owners used to be normal nice car guys. Whatever happened since I last looked escapes me but most of the current Vette owners seem to have a lot of unresolved issues and don't even know what's under the hood.
I'd take their credit card maybe but certainly not a check.
