  1. I've had my 47 Chrysler New Yorker Coupe radical Kustom for almost 15 years. I have never seen another one and I've only seen 1 picture of one and it was a restored original. I've been to car shows all over the country. (50,000+ miles on the third engine). And I am just amazed at how many people tell me they have seen one just like it. Lots of them used to have one just like it! If anyone really has seen one please let me know. And you wouldn't believe how many times I've been told how much "better" it would look with 20 in wheels.

  2. My grandfather worked at Chrysler for 30 years and drove a 46 Chrysler 3 window business coupe until 1953. Broke the block in winter of 1953.

  3. I was told by a guy looking at my choped merc that I was selling " If you replace that shrunkin head with big fuzzy dice you might find a buyer for this car"

  4. Had a fellow at our cruise in tonight who thought my '38 Ford pickup was a Dodge. It's lettered as a shop truck for Drake Motor Co., the Ford dealer here from 1928-1956. Huge Ford blue oval logos and Drake Motor Co. Rockmart GA Phone 13 on the doors. Of course I have fun playing mind games with the unknowing with the small block Chevy painted Ford flathead green with the valve covers lettered Ford Experimental OHV. I have this whole elaborate cock and bull story about the rare experimental OHV engine, only 16 of them built and how one found its way to Rockmart GA where mechanics at the Ford place installed it in the dealership's service truck. I can tell it with the straightest face you ever saw, and I've had folks swallow it hook, line, and sinker.

I like your Volkswagon.... It's not a Volkswagon, its a Morris Minor, a British built to compete with VW...... No, its a VW, I had one just like it........ Oh Yes, your right it is a VW!

I am a retired Ford Master Tech with 30 years in the business before I retired. Amazing when someone asked me what I think is wrong with their cars, and I tell them what I think, then they tell me I cant be right, cuz uncle Jeb had a 56 buick that was doing the same thing back then.

I find it very entertaining listening to people make fools of themselves. I just smile...

  9. This is a little ot but still dumb statement. When I used to ride motorcycles a lot I'd get "So, whatta ya do if it rains?" AAAAhhh let me think. Get wet or put on a rain suit.
I get a lot of people trying to figure out what My '40 Mercury is. Most older car guys know but there still a lot of mystery about the car. It's usually guessed as a post war car or a customized 40 Ford. The S/S side Window trim really screws with people. "Is it a Buick, Pontiac?" "It's just a Ford with a little extra trim." The headlight rims are the same.

I was at an all Corvette show with my '72 and I was sitting there watching the crowd. A guy from "Corvette Mike's" was explaing to his buddy how my car was a survivor car (meaning all original and never restored) and that the color was Monza red. Well Monza red was not an available color that year, and the paint was a 20 year old "One Day Paint and Body" job that actually faded even though it was always parked in the garage....Then he started telling his buddy that I need to be careful with my rear tires (275-50-15) because they stick out a bit and will for sure hit the wheel wells and tear them up....I finally had to speak up and explain that I have had the car 23 years, always had that size tire on the rear and they have never rubbed anything....Never let him know about the paint...

There was a unrestored Chrysler product 3 window for sale in Boardman Ohio last year. It sat near the corner of Ridgewood Dr and Market St. It had the short turret and ridiculously long trunk similar to a stock body version of your car. I never stopped to see exactly what it was cause I had no interest in buying it.

Oh, sorry, I sometimes get my day job as a Heavens Gate recruiter infringe on my car thoughts....

  27. what size engine is that?
    a 289.
    oh, it's a ford.
    no-a studebaker 289.
are you sure 'cause they used chevy engines in 'em too!
...and that is why a little bit of knowledge is sometimes worse than none.

It's always the same. Every car show I go to.

    That a '55 or a '56?
    56!
I've never seen one with the side trim like that.
Yeah, they only made them that one year in a hardtop.
    (The older generation, like me)
I had one just like that when I got out of the service, bought it brand new, EXCEPT, mine was a 55 four door and it was black and white, and it had a T-bird motor in it.
What kind of motor is in there? A flat head?

    No, a 272
My Uncle had one just like that EXCEPT his had the wide trim on it.
    A Fairlane I guess.
    Maybe, I don't remember.
Did you cut that top down?

    No it came that way.
    Is it stock?
    Yeah, Mostly.
Why don't you put those chrome rings around the headlights? You can get them off of a '55 you know.
Naw, really don't care for them.
My Dad had one just like that when I was a kid. EXCEPT his was a Mercury and it was Red & Black.
    Uh-huh, that right? ..
    What did it cost new?
Don't know, didn't buy it new.
Probably about $2,800, I'll give ya $5,000 for it.
I'll bet you would, I'll get back to you on that.
My cousin has one just like that EXCEPT his is a 2 door post and he's got a 351 in it.
    Uh-huh, that right?
    Have a good day.
    I'm tryin' ..

Sent you a PM about my experience with a 53/54 Ford back in 1957.
That old guy might have had the same DMV hassle I did. :D
