Vintage racing car driver Duncan Emmons of Rancho Mirage suffered a fatal heart attack Saturday while competing in the Coronado Classic Speed Festival. Emmons, 70, was driving a 1953 Kurtis 500S in the event when he slowed and brought his car to a stop. He was taken to the Naval Air Station in Coronado. Emmons owned Duncan Emmons Body and Muffler Shop in Rancho Mirage. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Darah Emmons; sons Duncan Emmons Jr., Dan Emmons, Scott Emmons and Jeff Preble; daughter Catherine Emmons; and four grandchildren. Services will be held Oct. 22 at Wiefels and Sons Mortuary in Palm Springs. Taken from the local paper. Duncan owned the Matranga clone that Bill Hines worked on...
Dam that sucks. I am using those articles from street rodder to help me in chopping my 40 merc right now. His clone was a dead nuts on of the orginal. Hope his family keeps the car and shows it more. My condolences to his family.
damn shame,, but got to go driving a very cool sports car, here he is in 2001,leading the pack on a flying start
A curtiss 500, and a matranga clone...Looks like he really lived the dream... I never met the man, but loved merc when it came out. Hines would hand bend the stainless on his knees!
Seams like we lost a real motorhead that had the passion and means to enjoy multiple aspects of the car hobby. Looks like he lead a full life and enjoyed it to the very end. I guess you can't ask for much more - unless it's more time to keep doing it. RIP
