That may not be the correct spelling, but I am sanding the body down to raw metal on our 55 Ford PU since we have no clue what some of this paint is on it and need some advice on what to put on it to keep it from rusting until we are ready to do more bodywork and paint. I was told that the Dupont Vera Prime misted on lightly was the best thing. I'll have to resand anyway, but I'm just doing sections at a time and I noticed that it is already starting to show some light rust. Any advice or comments?
vari-prime is good on fresh bare metal, but needs top coated with a better covering primer before it gets exposed to the elements.you can get a D.T.M. primer which is direct to metal.ppg dp40 and dp90 are good etching and protective.there are a lot of options
technically ppg epoxy and most dtm do not "etch" the metal This is true most paint systems are used in spot repairing of new cars not restos. Etching primer gives good adhesion and corrosion protection to metal. Dupont has many good products in their commercial line. go to www.performancecoatings.dupont.com and check it out.
