SWISH! Bugsy mate, you got some style son! Better than an old '43 Willys MB huh!!! Love the raggedy ass look of this, completely honest and bags of fun! Good job
Thanks man!! Damn sorry about the Bonneville trip and the Special. I LOVE that car!!!! HAHAHA!!! It rides about like my old '43 Willys jeep!!! Raggedy is right for this thing and yeah...it's been pretty fun so far!!! How's your coupe coming along?
Coop is coming along, gettin snatches of time here n there. Still in the tear down process while i source parts, damn hard to find non existant Chrysler parts while in the UK. I suppose she dont look too disimilar to yours right now Keep the updates coming, you got something great there!
Certainly proud of ya lil bro I know what ya started with, and look what ya got happinin now!!! All I can say is! First road trip, (trailer or asphalt) I best be your first stop!! I got the goggles and the gear, let's roll!!!!
Man, I love that coupe!! That was a great find!!! I had a '32 Plymouth, 3 window for a while. Suicide doors and all steel construction.....hard to beat!! Your're right too in that ours look about the same, except you are tearing yours apart and mine is about finished!!!! Thanks Bro!! Yeah, you saw it as a pile of parts....now its a pile of parts with a seat!!!! I'll come down with it soon but actually might be coming your way on my bike in the next couple of weeks. I'll need a stopping point and by the time I get to your place, my ass will be numb!! My old BSA is like riding a buckboard!!!
So...I finally got off my ass and did something fun with the Dust Bowl. Jay (Nosurf) finally broke me and I loaded up yesterday and traveled the 50 miles to his place in Abilene, Ks. They were hosting the 34th. annual, "Chisolm Trail Days". For those of you who've never been to Abilene, it's a cool place. Great history and great, little town to hang out in. In addition to all of the pioneer demostrations and the Wild Bill look-a-like, there was a small car and tractor show. I got to Jay's place about 8:00am. Jay is famous for hosting the Mid West HAMB BBQ every year in April and for those of you who are lucky enough to have ever been to Jay's, you know what a kick ass place he has and what an awesomne guy he is! He's got a great spread about 3 miles out of town. His shop is the ultimate man cave and he has a ton of outbuildings and barns where he stashes his rides. As soon as he looked at the Dust Bowl, he suggested that we machine turn the small, aluminum cover over the column drop. He got me started.... I did this for about 10 minutes.... And ended up with this! May not seem like a huge deal but I love it and how it turned out. No cost to me and looks a lot cooler than it did! We went to fire off Jay's coupe to make our way to the show but the coupe's starter selanoid shot craps...Jay's face says it all!!! "WTF???!!! I shot a ton of mustard down the carbs and still nothing!!!" Jay decided to run his speedster instead. After unloading a bunch of tools and lumber out of the bed and putting some air in the tires, she fired off and was ready to roll!!! It was only about 40 degrees so we had to get the googles and flannel out. Coffee helped too! It's tough to see but there's Jay and the speedster up ahead. It was a cold but fun 3 miles into town. We took the backroads in and the old bangers ran like a top!!! We made it to the show and made quite the stir when we rolled up!! It was a blast and proof of how much fun you can have with a couple of piles of 80 year old parts!!! The dude that had the 70's porn, Nova next to Jay's speedster actually moved after we rolled up!! We figured he was afraid a wood rat would pop out of the speedster and chew his wiring up!!! We had a great time to say the least!!! We stayed for a couple of hours and headed back to Jay's place. "Chicken", from the HAMB showed up as we pulled in and some dude followed up back so he could get a closer look at the cars. It was a kick ass day!!! Jay said that Abilebne is now known for two things...... Dwight Eisenhower and the "Dust Bowl" finally showed up!! Thanks, Jay, for your hospitality!! Can't wait to head back over soon!!!
I was kind of motivated after bombing around in the roadster that I finally mounted up my new, down-draft intake from Bill (BCCHOPIT). Needless to say....it's sexy as hell!! I rebuilt my 94 about a year ago and finally go a chance to test run it. She fired off and after some slight adjustments, she was purring like a kitten!! I can't wait to plumb up the lines and get my new spoon pedal and linkage on!!! With a bit of fabrication, this will be a great addition!!!!
Pimpin Jason! Its very cool to see some pictures of you guys hanging out driving them thats what it all about for me anyways, and always a great motivator to getting some more parts put on after a good trip , they look great, keep up the good work look forward to what your gonna do next?
Thanks, Man!! Yeah, I think that when they sit around too long, I lose motivation. I'm one of those people that has to have a deadline or a goal. Sometimes though, just by having some fun with them, it can re-motivate me!! I'm going to get the new intake plumbed up and my spoon pedal assembly mounted. I have something in the works for the exhaust too. I'm wanting to change out my distributor for either a Mallory that I have or a Model B. I need to get the Whippet radiator on then and basically, just drive it. This winter I'm going to go through the brakes and rework my seat. I need a bit more leg room and sit up too high on the seat. I want to drop all of that down as I'm going to fab up a top for it. And the list goes on and on..... Mark, it seems like the starter solenoid fried....literally! It cranked hard as hell and the solenoid got magma hot!! It was!! It sure makes me wish that we weren't heading into the winter but I guess I can at least make some headway on the other crap I want to get done to it. He did!! We laughed our asses off!! It's funny too how these two, beat up bangers got more attention than some of the high dollar stuff there. That always cracks me up!!
Mark, I'm going to do my best to get a top on this thing and am seriously considering a heater of some kind. I obviously won't be able to run one of the manifold heaters after I cange out the exhause but I'm sure I could plumb in a hot water type or even gasoline. It wouldn't do a whole lot but any amount of heat would help keep it going. I've run a lot of my A's in the winter over theyears and enjoy it. I'm not too worried about the Dust Bowl's body getting rusty either!!
Nicely done my friend! Glad to see you're getting the "Dust Bowl" out and about and rackin' up some mileage! Good on ya!
What a blast. Can't wait to head out again soon. We cleaned up the connections on the solenoid, and the coupe eventually fired and ran good.
Jay, I appreciate the hospitality and will be back over before the weather turns to total shit!! I wish that I didn't have to leave before the Polish sausage was grilled that day, I'll bet it was the tits!! Glad to hear that the solenoid was fixable and the coupe fired off! I'm kinda glad though that you took the speedster intead. It was fun to run the bangers and I wouldn't have been able to keep up with the coupe! Hell...the speedster was flying with the new "air in the tires" modification that we did to it!!!!
Just picked up my latest addition for the roadster. I've been wanting an original, cast iron, Winfield for quite a while and finally got one. This came from a collection of an old dirt racer who's passed on. It's had some repair work done to it but it's true and pretty solid. I'm STOKED!!!! My list of things that i want to do this winter keep on growing but I'm really happy with this find. The rough look of the head will fit the rest of the car!!!
Dude! ...NICE score! That will look GREAT sitting on top of that mill! I would love to find a good period head for the roadster at some point...a Ricardo or a Sherman Spitfire maybe I can dream for now
Clayton, my old speedster had a Waukesha Ricardo on it. I wish I could have kept it as it was a fun, little ride....
Nice looking speedster you had there. I like what going on with the dust bowl that head is going to fit right in.
Thanks!! Yeah...I miss it sometimes and have plans for another one in the future. I'm pumped about getting this head on the roadster and getting my throttle linkage worked up and the exhaust and a top etc. etc....you know how the list goes on and on!!! Mark...I've been a first class, slack ass when it comes to the roadster lately!! My house, project list is even longer than the car project list! Also, I've been messing with my old, BSA. I've been riding it a lot before the weather gets bad. Man...if I only had more time and money!!!!
Hey jason! Been busy moving into a 5th wheel the ol'lady and I bought , so havent really done anything to the truck or 54 of lately , but figured id drop in and say hi and hope you had a great Christmas and hope a even better new year!
Hey Man! good to hear from you! I've been good but haven't done squat to the roadster for a while. Too damn cold and the shop is piled with motorcycle projects that all need sold!! Been hauling scrap lately??
What nice cars! Love those go jobs. You guys are inspiration. One day hope to build one - I got the T frame ready to go....
Thanks Man!! It's been a fun project and honestly, not super difficult. I've always liked this era of car and the folks that built them. There is something attractive about their simplicity. If you have a T frame, you've got a good start! This roadster was put together one, scrounged, part at a time!!! Get after it!!!!!
