I might just happen to know where a 3 car trailer is at. Custom built to haul 3 speedsters....... just sayin.

  2. That's only 10-12 hours from here...I'd be in (if I can get this thing put together in time).

Just for conversation sake but what would you guys think about the fall of the year for something like this? Late September to midOctober would be a good time of year here weather wise. Not hot, not cold, not much chance for precipitation, etc. The Hotrod hill climb in Colorado is happening in September though and not sure how many of the same fellas would be interested in this. Just some thoughts....then i'll get back to working on the roadster!!!!

You guys are awesome! Love the video with the constant laughs all the time. My first ride in a banger was such a blast, I just remember rattle, shaking, smell of clutch and exhaust, bangin' around in the cab and pushing the throttle as hard as I could. Well knowing that I just have mechanical brakes to stop that bastard, combined with the straight pipe noise made 40mph feel like 100.

You're right, they are a lot of fun for sure! The BBQ was great and I'm looking forward to blasting around the pastures some more this summer!

Well....not much to report on the roadster. I have to do some more work to the Whippet radiator before I can get it mounted. That's the next thing in line! I'm also going to get the Winfield head on and Mallorey distributor. I want to make the Hill Climb this September in Colorado, so that's my next goal for getting some more done on it. The '64 Belair has consumed some of my time as well as house projects. Not enough hours in the day!!!

How much do you need to do for the Whippet to be ready for use?

Was REALLY looking forward to making Barn Find T's hillclimb in Colorado...but won't be able to make it :( .....I'm hoping to be there next year with the T though!

Clayton...I need to have my radiator guy move the bottom outlet from the right to the left side of the radiator. By the looks of the radiator, it was originally on the left side but someone has moved it over the years. My guy is nervous about doing it though as he doesn't want to dick up the radiator because we finally got it all repaired and in good shape. The problem is that I don't want to mess around running hose or pipe all the way across the bottom of the radiator with a bunch of elbows and bends just to make this work. I just need to have it moved back to the left side and plumb it up. I'm really looking forward to getting it on the roadster!!

Are you still running the original "honeycomb" core? Did you have it boiled out? Moving the lower inlet pipe should be fairly easy and I doubt he would mess it up doing it.

If you haven't had it boiled out yet....do it, would hate for it to have the core blocked and you not know it until its already on the car.

You get the PM I sent ya? :D

    Clayton,
It's been flushed and boiled out and a couple of leaks fixed. she's read to go! It has an iteresting pattern for the core. It's the honeycomb style but is a series of small squares. It's kind of cool looking! I just need him to move the inlet and get this mounted already. I'm excited to see how different the car looks with this radiator and shell.

Thanks for the link to the cap! that one is much nicer than the one I have!!

Okay, good! Most cooling and overheating issues can be prevented by that easy process...its money well spent. Can't wait to see it mounted!

That's exactly why I sent it to ya :D. Not every day you see a real nice one.....go for it!

So...I've got the Whippet radiator back at the shop for a couple more things before I get it slapped on and gwhite (Gary) has talked me out of my current 29 A radiator for his gowjob so it's motivated me to get off of my ass and get the Whippet show on the road! I'm working on some mounting brackets and hope to have to have it up and going soon. The other item that I'm looking at is getting some new shoes for the back. My current rear tires are old, mis-matched trailer tires that have flat spots and are basically crap. I also have a really nice pair of bent spoke, 17" wheels that I've been dying to run on the roadster for a while now. I've always liked the look of knobby tires on a car from this era and may go that route. The issue with the Firestone knobby is that I can't find this one in the 17". Seems to only come in 16". These are the ones that you usually see and think of when looking at the old dirt trackers from the late 30's. I did find these Torrel Traction ones in 17" though too. I like the looks of them and saw an A roadster that had them once and liked them. Any thoughts on these?? The Torrels would fit my bent spoke 17" which would be sweet looking on the Dust Bowl but the Firestone knobbies are the more, classic knobby that you think of.....Anyways.....

    Firestones....

    Gary,
I like them the best too but man...I'm really wanting to run these 17" bent spokes wheels and can't find this tread in 17".

I want them in 21" for the rear wheels on my T. I have a set of original Wards Riverside "Power Grip" tires from the period, but they are a little old to run there days.

    Clayton,
I love the looks of those Power Grip tires too. It's too bad that nobody makes those. The roadster that I took the body from for this car had a couple of them on it but they were too far gone. They just look sweet and are very period if you ask me. The Dust Bowl kind of has the whole, dirt track thing going on (in a way) and if we do this gowjob dirt race next year, she will need some better kicks!

  23. I have those firestones on my modified the do howl some but I can still hear the electric fan over them & the open headered pontiac 400.

I have not read this entire thread so its probably been said before..... Many would be tempted to restore this beauty... But there is something about this car... I do hope you do not change the overall look a bit. Get it mechanically sound and safe and drive it.... It will never be more awesome than it is now. Wish I could find something like this around.

The wear and patina and even the rust are all perfect. Even a rusty car would outlive its owner.

But that's not Bugsy or his car. That's Chris.

  29. It's funny you should mention that car though because I always liked the looks of the tires he used on the rear. Also 17's I believe.

Jay...I'm starting to lean towards them. They are different and less expensive. Also, I could leave my 16" tires mounted and have a spare set!

    Mark,
Will do!! What is your entry, or is it top secret??!

Man...I appreciate that! Yeah, it does have a "look" to it, good or bad!:D I've thought about the body and a paint job off and on over time but it would 100% change the car. Honestly, she's pretty damn rough and rusty but in a way, it adds to the look I suppose.

OK...my mind is made up now...I'll get the Torrels!!

HA!!! I love Chris's roadster and it makes mine look like a POS!!! Not a bad one to have mine confused with!
