Man...that would be a hell of a howl to hear over the open headered Poncho 400!! I'm not too worried about road noise with them as the roadster makes all kinds of noises anyway. Rattle, bang, pop, pop. I little tire noise would be welcome!!:D

  2. They kind of equil things out & its not that loud in the car but I cant sneak up on any think.

I'm anxious to see the new grill!

Do you plan to drive it to salina or trailer it?

MAn...I've been bombarded by BS lately!! I had it mounted up once and didn't like the way I had the mounts fabbed up and I'm still working on the right radiator hose reducer method as the Whippet inlet and outlet pipes are way smaller than the A. Then, Iwanted to drive it around on the 4th. of July so i stuck the '29 A radiator back on!! This week....hopefully!!!

OK...so since I've been stalled out on the Whippet grille and still fighting some issues with the radiator, I decided to do something else yesterday. The kids and I have been driving the roadster quite a bit lately and the split exhaust with straight pipes sounds awesome but to a 5 and 7 year old, it gets loud after a while. I didn't want mufflers and I didn't want to kill the banger goodness, so I decided to put together some pipes with baffles in them. Here's what I did......

I cut one of the expanded ends off of two, 18" pipes.

Then I cut some tubing the will be the center section of the baffles...

Then I ground down a couple of 3/4 inch washers so that they could fit inside the pipes and drilled a couple of holes in them....

I drilled the two, bigger washers as well and they fit into the back part of the pipe but can't go past where the pipe is expanded. I then drilled holes in the center tubes and welded the washers to each end of the tubes...

Then I wrapped the tubes in stailess steel mesh and then wrapped the whole deal in a close weave chicken wire....

Then I drove them into the pipes from the back side where thel wedged into place. The cool thing is that they can be taken out and wrapped more or add in some stainless steel wool if I want.....

They slipped right onto the existing pipes and only extended them by maybe just over a foot or so and used clamps to secure them. No hangers needed as they aren't long and don't weigh much!

I think they look great and didn't ruin the look of the exhaust. The best part is that they sound sweet!! It still has a nice pop to it but it really took the edge off of it and you can actually talk in the car now! The kids approve and that's all I care about anyway! The cool thing is that I can take them off and add packing or take them off completely in about 2 minutes and run wide open again! The cops don't stare as much now I noticed when we went to Sonic for a burger last night!

More to come on the radiator saga.........

Thanks fellas....I'm pretty happy with them. I still need to mill the maifolds as they aren't 100% true where they meet the block so i do have some exhaust leaks but it's getting there and I think sounds better. With that being said....

If I can get a hold of a decent camera, I'll do it!!!:D

OK....here's the sneak peek of the Whippet grill shell and radiator. I re did my shell mount today and then just mocked up the radiator. Still have a long way to go but this is what's coming along....
